Another aging rocker desperately tries to sell new records, claims “internet is like an atomic bomb”. Also doesn’t know how to rip a song from a CD…

  • August 18, 2010 6:51 am

Oh geese. When will these washed up rockers realize that 20-30 years later in 2010, no one gives a damn about them. Case in point: John Mellencamp. Say what you will about his glory days, because they are long gone. Recently, ‘ol Johnny boy here made a simple, yet very telling statement:

“I think the Internet is the most dangerous thing invented since the atomic bomb”

Riiiiight. But it gets even better. He busts out the completely flawed statement building off the previous saying:

“It’s destroyed the music business. It’s going to destroy the movie business.”

Sorry to break it to ya John, but the music industry destroyed the music industry. Dicking around with Napster back in the day instead of learning from the possibilities as well as taking a very hands off approach to anything digital early on is what set them up for failure. It is the music industries constant failures in giving consumers what they want that has led to their downfall. No amount of rigged “studdies”, press releases, or even blabbering washed up celebrities like you can change that.

With that said, sticking with the whole anti-digital rhetoric, Mellencamp dished out criticism on mp3 players/digital downloads, comparing remastered CDs and mp3 downloads as night and day differences. Specifically,

you could barely even recognize it as the same song. You could tell it was those guys singing, but the warmth and quality of what the artist intended for us to hear was so vastly different.

Yet again, a digital retard and backwards thinking has been is showing how ignorant he is. Here’s a hint John — it’s called FLAC. Google it.

Linkin Park releases “8-bit Rebellion” retro iPhone/iPod Touch game on App Store.

  • March 30, 2010 3:02 pm

Been roaming the planet for a few years — at least a couple decades? If so and you find “nu metal” calming and relaxing, you may remember a band by the name of Linkin Park. Back in the day (and still now), they were one of my favorite bands, going big back in 2000. In 2008 the band released their third album, “Miniutes to Midnight”. Since then, they’ve been pretty quiet, though I’m sure touring and other band related stuff is going on. Their musical background is known by many. However, I’m pretty sure many of you didn’t know that they have a deep interest in the iPhone. So much so that they actually had an app made. And yes, it is actually pretty decent.

The game is called “Linkin Park: 8-bit Rebellion” and has an overall feal aiken to Nintendo games (the good 8-bit oldies) of years past. What Nintendo refuses to do, the more talented will go ahead and do anyway. Thank you Linkin Park. The video certainly looks pretty promising. But the real test will be the actual gameplay. After I give it some play time, I’ll let you know what I think, being an old Linkin Park music fan. Don’t let me have all the fun though. Give 8-bit Rebellion a shot and let us know what you think!

To protect your iPhone, or not to protect your iPhone – Obviously not protect!

  • March 4, 2010 11:53 am

Is it iPhone case fail day today? I think it might be. We can either have our iPhone look like a rock, or we can have what I’d only assume RoboCop would use.

Hong Kong retailer, ‘JOYCE, has released a new line of designer-created iPhone cases, now, I am only posting about the rock case, but the rest of em aren’t that pretty, but they make a hell of a lot more sense than a Rock Hide-a-key! Come on people, with all that China bans and keeps from the people, you think they wouldn’t allow crap like this to be produced, lol. My only advice, well, other than not to buy this garbage, is that if you happen to own this thing, PLEASE! remember to switch out cases before you go rock climbing, iPhones are too expensive to have lost in plain site.

Okay, now the other case we have today, albeit the complete opposite side of the spectrum, is the ‘Decepticon’ iPhone case. This beast was created by a man named Ryan Glasgow from Portland, OR, and has started selling this thing for $95. I have never been a fan of these ‘clamshell’ type cases, as I think you look like a complete dbag with the flap open while making a telly call, but this is ridiculous. I’m kinda curious as to how long it will take before it decapitates one of is unsuspecting owners.

So there ya have it, if spending hundreds of dollars on a phone wasn’t crazy enough, why not make it look like crap.

WTF Special Edition: The “Steel Clean Soap Stainless Steel Hnad Odor Remover Bar”….what!?

  • February 5, 2010 9:47 am

Want a gag edition stocking stuffer? Perhaps a shiny “special” piece of coal for that disobedient child? From both ends of the spectrum to everything in between the “Steel Clean Soap Stainless Steel Hand Odor Remover” is without a doubt the weirdest concept I’ve ever seen. The first thought that comes to mind: “damn, leave some words for the rest of the internet…” Likewise?

According to the packaging, a little warm water, some stainless steel scrubbing and 30-60 seconds of your time are all that are needed to transform your hands from pungent fists of fury to completely neutral and unassuming. Does it work? For only $3.69 it’s cheap enough I wouldn’t mind throwing a few dollars that way. Then again, it’s extremely low price has me questioning it’s build quality. Steel itself isn’t exactly a dirt cheap commodity.

As for making your hands smell less like ass, I’m a tad hesitant. The last time I picked up some bare metal, stainless steel or not, “neutral” wasn’t exactly the scent that came to mind.

Get ‘em while they’re hot cold…

RIM sponsoring U2′s 2010 North American Tour.

  • October 27, 2009 6:59 am

Apparently things went well with the last co-op between U2 and RIM because as they did this past year, RIM will again be the title sponsor for U2′s 2010 North American tour. Taking on such a challenge is not for the faint of heart or light of wallet. Copious amounts of time, energy, and money are needed to put on such shows and tours. I applaud RIM for reaching out into the consumer space and trying to be “consumer cool”. Now, let’s just hope they do a better job than this past year’s (2009) tour as though RIM was very much a sponsor, a few pathetic banners strung across the performance venues and a some BlackBerry logos displayed on TV’s are hardly going to win over any new customers. Not to mention, such a lack of effort and presence by the main sponsor is pretty ridiculous. Let’s try to kick this next one up a dozen notches ‘ey RIM?

Paramore: Decode

  • September 12, 2009 5:18 pm

Harder bands that feature a female singer and continue to rock are few and far between. One band in particular that fits the bill is that of Paramore. Some may confuse them at times with Flyleaf. Another popular band that features a female singer. Regardless of any cult following you may have with one band or the other, Paramore has some really awesome songs. My favorite in particular is “Decode”. The music video above was made for the movie Twilight hence the affiliation. So give it a listen and let us know what you think. Lyrics included…

Driven: “Snapped”

  • August 26, 2009 9:06 pm

Following the drumming God from South Africa, I’ll begin to head down a different path. A path that hits a little closer to home in fact. Any musician who regardless if they’ve made it big or not, has a deep love and understanding of local music and the support needed when a “big night” consist of a crowd in the 3 digit range. While the ultimate goal of any local band is to become famous, the one thing that should never leave priority spot number 1 is that of good music. The term “good music” is debatable and subjective from person to person. However, no matter the genre, local music is almost like a sort of school pride in that those who follow the band are proud of them, the music they make, and the humble origins from which they originated.

So, the highlight of the “local music” video for the evening is from my favorite local band here in South Bend, Indiana — Driven.

Alter Bridge: Broken Wings

Alter Bridge. Whether you knew them before or after they made the switch from Creed, you surely know the potential they had. With Myles Kennedy that potential was unleashed. While many will surely disagree, I find Alter Bridge, and more importantly, Myles Kennedy to have one of the best voices for someone in this genre. He has range, power, and control (most days). With heavy hits such as “Ties that Bind” to amazing rock balads such as “Blackbird” (my personal favorite) to more mainstream favorites such as “Broken Wings”, Alter Bridge has quite a variety of music that is sure to suck you in.
