Mythbuster-esque “Immersion Immersion” to put gaming myths/concepts to the real world test. [TV]

  • April 7, 2010 9:42 am

Love the idea of the Mythbusters but looking for something geared a little more towards concepts that appear in video games? If you think about it, there’s actually quite a market there. The people behind “Immersion Immersion” — Rooster Teeth (RedvsBlue) — think so to which is why they are putting together one of the most awesome of all awesome shows (second to Mythbusters of course).

Immersion Immersion is currently in the pilot phase, but if it gets the green light to proceed, nerds everywhere will soon be able to see concepts from their favorite video games played out in real life.

So far, only one concept has been tested — driving a car in third person. With a camera mounted on an arm that extends off the back of the car and the windows covered up, that video game third person view is put to the test. How hard could it be? Well, watch the video below to find out.

I can sit here and say that I think I’d do better than the driver below, but it’s all speculation and boasting until I could actually attempt it myself. Think you would fare better?

CES Dark Chronicles: Hotel showcases and “suite parties” leading way to blackmail and extortion?

  • January 11, 2010 2:17 pm

While I would classify my time in Vegas for the 2010 CES show as a resounding enjoyment, many smaller vendors whom were unable to display product on the show floor or took to a hotel suite for an additional (less expensive outlet) may see it a different way. Instead of the looking over your shoulder at competitors products, vendors now have another problem to look after — angry CEA employees enforcing bogus crackdowns. According to DailyTech, whom witnessed the scandalous events first hand as well as from a few other sources, tCEA and hotel employees at the Venetian and Palazzo confronted and threatened to kick out those using their *legally paid for* hotel suites for any type of product showcasing.

Seems a little shifty if you ask me. A classic case of greed and jealousy perhaps? The biggest question however is “Why?” I myself went to a few hotel suite events at those very same hotels. At any given point there were at most 50-60 people in one room. How is a 50-60 product shindig going to upset a 6 digit consumer electronics show? Simple answer: It won’t. It’s simple greed. Greed because those close to the matter claim they could either leave their suites sans refund or pay the CEA the entry $10,000 entry fee to display at CES.

Sure sounds like greed (with a healthy dose of blackmail) to me. Will I still attend future CES shows? Sure will. Will I support everything the CEA does? Nope. Like most organizing bodies and groups, the CEA is just like the rest apparently — greedy, juvenile, and insulting.

Anyone else (you will remain anonymousness) see or hear similar “behind-the-scenes” dirt going on?

1 vs. 100 FREE for all Xbox Silver and Gold members this Christmas.

  • December 22, 2009 2:48 pm

Have an Xbox and fancy the Live scene? If you’re into the whole trivia thing, one game you should check out (if you haven’t already) is 1 vs. 100. Think of it as a sort of Xbox version of “Who wants to be a millionaire” except here there isn’t any money and thousands of people play simultaneously instead of just one. Completely the same….right.

Anyway, December 24th through December 26th, all Xbox Live members (Silver and Gold) will be able to play 1 vs. 100 for FREE. Also calendar worthy is a special Holiday themed episode of the game going live on December 26th @ 9pm (EST).

Again, if you’re in to trivia it’s a pretty fun way to pass the hours. Something else that might pique your interest — while monetary awards aren’t technically handed out, winners of 1 vs. 100 Live can win various amounts of Microsoft Points, games, and many other Microsoft gifts so it’s in your best interest to play if you like free stuff. See you on the 24th!
