CES 2011 is said to be the year of the tablet. And at the ASUS press keynote, that phrase rang true as the company unveiled four tablet devices: Eee MeMO, Transformer, Slider, and Slate. The tablets are definitely slick looking and show ASUS’ attention to detail — much the same as Apple. However, as ASUS noted in their keynote, they like to provide choices to consumers. With that said, hop inside for the full rundown — pictures, words, and press releases galore!

Straight up: How’s RIM’s new BlackBerry Torch? If you’re looking for something short and sweet, take this — Late. That’s pretty vague, however. But the BlackBerry Torch is so much more than that as it perfectly illustrates RIM’s ability to improve quickly and decisively while at the same time coming off looking worn down and tired. How can that be?
I’ll come right out and say that the Torch is hands down RIM’s best BlackBerry. Ever. It’s an awesome BlackBerry in fact. But therein lies part of the problem — it’s still a BlackBerry. Yes, some backwards compatibility/familiarity needs to be maintained as well as an overhaul of the platform. But where do you draw the line?
That’s precisely what I set out to do a week and a half back. Over these last 10 days, I’ve put my Droid down as much as possible and made the Torch my daily driver, fully immersing myself in it’s abilities and shortcomings. It’s been quite a ride for sure. Come on in and check it out…

Have an itch to get your hands on the latest and greatest BlackBerry OS?! Never mind the simple fact that the Torch is the only BlackBerry that has a working version of OS 6 and the fact that it’s not even for sale yet. Small beans they are. For the true CrackBerry user, merely having the 1′s and 0′s that make up the best effort from RIM yet is enough to send chills down your spin.
Fair enough. Go and get it: BlackBerry Torch OS 6 download.
It’s tuesday, and we all know what that means! OS 6.0 for BlackBerry is here! RIM has come a long way over the years. Though recent “major” revisions of the OS have been rather uninspiring and low key. Couple that with some pretty serious competition from Google, Apple, and even Palm, means RIM had better a real winner in OS 6. So without further adieu, OS 6…

As we all knew, the BlackBerry Torch arrived today, officially revealed at RIM’s quaint little keynote. But that’s not all. BlackBerry OS 6 was just as big for RIM. But before we get to the new OS, let’s recap the new hardware — BlackBerry OS 6, 624MHz processor (that’s it?), 3.2 inch 480 x 360 screen, 512 MB RAM, 512 MB Flash (+ 4 GB Flash + 4GB micro-SD card), Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi b/g/n, 5 megapixel camera, and 1300 mAh battery.
The hardware is certainly a nice breath of relatively fresh air. Can the new software deliver? Stay tuned…
Oh Mr. Blurry Cam how we love thee, for you bring us the latest in tech with that oh so lovable fuzz. Tonight’s Mr. Blurry Cam showcase is this mini-Droid looking device. It’s easy to see that it comes from Moto’s labs, red eye and all. The portrait sliding keyboard is my favorite. Though the only phones that have ever really won me over as far as portrait keyboards are concerned are newer BlackBerries and the Palm Pre Plus. But if Moto can shake out a properly spec’d portrait slider of their own, I may perhaps overlook their nannyish/bootlocker lock down ways.
…Nah, who am I kidding. The screen looks like it barely makes it to the 3″ mark if that. I’m sorry, but a sub-3″ smartphone display will not work. Especially not with the requirements that modern apps and games put on the user. The touchscreen is one of the most important smartphone parts these days and as such, needs to be perfect. Somehow I don’t think this mini-Droid would be very useful. But I could be wrong. Either way, I would love to give it some one on one time just to see if I’m right. You?

Can a new Android phone by Samsung really be called “Epic”? The fact that it has 4G is a good start. Kicking the phone to the side to reveal a rather spacious 5-row sliding keyboard doesn’t hurt either. But are those two features alone enough to conquer them all?
Depends on what you look for in a phone. Though, the reported 1GHz “Hummingbird” processor, 1GB RAM/512 ROM, 802.11b/g/n w/ wifi hotspot, 5mp camera, and 720p video recording ability certainly add some weight. Tying it all together is Android 2.1 with Samsung’s love it or hate it TouchWiz 3.0 skin.
Other tidbits like price and release date have been grouped under the all too common “Soon”, so keep checkin’ back. But if you’re feeling the urge to stay up to the minute with the Epic 4G, sign up to receive more information as it becomes available. You know how it is, join the crowd.
Any Sprint users waiting with abated breath?
How about another look at the well known about BlackBerry 9800 Slider? Compliments of Engadget, this early exclusive runs through the full gamut of hardware related things and even touches on the OS 6 running underneath. Speaking of which, OS 6 on this latest piece of hardware has subtle (read: very subtle) UI tweaks. They didn’t jump out at me the first, or even second time through. We’ll see if your eyes are more eagle-like than mine.
On the hardware front, globe trotters will be happy to know that quad-band 3G is supported making this a bonified world traveling phone. And the keyboard — well, it’s a BlackBerry so it’s bound to be pretty close to awesome.
The carrier is either a blessing or a curse depending on where you live, how densely populated your city is, and how many planets are aligned at the time of your call. If that wasn’t clear enough — AT&T.
What do you guys think? Hop inside for a couple more pics or head on over to Engadget for the full show.
Have a question about the upcoming BlackBerry 9800 Slider? What about OS 6.0? Well then, put on your seat belts and drop on in ’cause there’s a 16-minute walkthrough of both right inside. And it’s jam packed I might add. Besides a plethora of great pics of the 9800 itself, the walkthrough is actually really, really deep. Even better, we know who the first carrier might be. (Spoiler: there’s a T-Mo SIM card in the video walkthrough unit.) Ok, so it’s in Chinese. Beggars can’t be choosers. Besides, it’s all pretty self-explanatory. Get in there…
