All of you Foursquare users out there, sit down. There’s no possible way you can “top” this — Astronaut Douglas H. “Wheels” Wheelock has just checked in from the International Space Station, 220 miles above the surface of Earth. Thank you and good day…
What were you doing 30 years ago? Me? I wasn’t even a hapless floating protein in my mothers head. If you were more than a simple thought, however, you were probably there to see Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back in theaters. (You lucky devil you.) Even though I was born after the initial Star Wars trilogy was released, I still grew to appreciate the series for what it was — awesome. Over the years, Star Wars has only gained in popularity with countless fan clubs and downright cult-like groups professing their undying faith for the sci-fi flicks.
Naturally, new gear to rock your Star Wars fetish is always a welcome addition 30 years after the fact. With that said, ThinkGeek has two new goodies for all you Star Wars fans to get crazy over — the Wampa Rug and the C-3PO backpack. Starting with the latter, the C-3PO backup is…well…a backpack. You put stuff in it. Except this one is ultra nerdy because it’s Star Wars. As for the rug, it’s 62″ x 30″ in size which means it’s perfect for cuttin’ — or whatever else it is you may find to do on him.
$99.99 for the Wampa Rug and $59.99 for the C-3PO backpack.

Yet another prized possession from ThinkGeek — the Star Trek Pizza Cutter. It’s so beautiful wrapped up in it’s little box, shiny and all. It’s almost too beautiful in that I don’t want to tarnish it’s face with garlic laden pizza sauce and chicken grease. But alas, I hate buying things I can’t use. Wear your geeky character loud and proud, right? For the record, if you cut your pizza with the Starship Enterprise, you are a massive geek.

With the Imperial army in shambles, old, decommissioned AT-AT Walkers need something to keep active.

Another friday, another movie. After getting your brains tazed by the ArcAttack videos, why not take the time to enjoy something a bit more relaxing. The accompanying video is a “view from the driver’s seat” of a NASA Shuttle’s booster rocket falling from miles and miles above the Earth’s surface. It’s kind of lengthy, but cool nonetheless. You know the drill. Click. Click. Enjoy…
Star Wars isn’t just popular for it’s plot, characters, or mystifying effects. It’s the overall aurora that surrounds it which leads to all kinds of inspirational ideas. Sound like random babbling? (You’re halfway there!)
The effect of Star Wars: Flickr user , “Stéfan”, took one picture each day for an entire year of his two Stormtroopers doing their daily routine. The result is 365 pictures of pure enjoyment. Hop in for a few favorites…
I don’t want to hear any of your stories claiming that your school prank was the “coolest ever”. Unless you are one of the individuals behind Carleton College’s Astronomical Observatory remodeling, sit down.
The R2-D2 Observatory — How fitting. Bigger picture right inside…

Are you in love with retro games? I mean really, really in love? How often can you say you get to see or touch “your love” in every aspect of your life? For many people, their fascination is relegated to “hobby” status as life and the 9-to-5 grind consume a fair chunk of our daily rituals. But for retro gamers, a bone has been thrown in the form of salt and pepper shakers.
Not just any salt and pepper shakers but Space Invader shakers. How sweet would it be to stroll into someone’s house, plunk yourself down at their table, and then get welcomed by two of these beauts staring back at you? If it were close friends that I was on joking terms with, I’d totally take them if I could, enjoying both the joke of “where’d they go” and secretly enjoying them back in the safe confines of my own humble living quarters. How much do you love Space Invaders? Enough to let them eat with you day in and day out?

LEGOs are geeky enough. Star Wars — times two. Throw fooseball into the mix? Dear god, you’re asking for trouble. Austrian LEGO/Star Wars/Fooseball nut, 2×4 did the unthinkable and mashed together several staples of a geek’s “way of life” into one of the greatest creations of all time: a Star Wars fooseball table constructed entirely out of LEGOs. Does it get any better? Yes, it’s fully playable. Try not to let your 2-ton jaw hit the handles as it rockets to the floor. Rebuilding this beast would be an undertaking of epic proportions. Not to mention, watching this crumble to pieces would make any geek cry. Who’s ready for a few rounds?
