If you love blowing money on stupid gadgets, I’ve got a few things that will be right up your alley. Piggy backing on the apparently popular “Gangsta Lifestyle”, “Gangsta Gadgets” look to bring a little bit of the street into a geeky style with such things as shoes with speakers and DVD players, Gun remote controls, and thonged mice Gangsta Gadgets has it all. To be fair, I’m not knocking the designer of said concepts, Kristin Kerby as I am more-so knocking the ideology.
Humans already kill other humans for plain shoes, plain stereos, and plain…shower heads? Blinging them up with speakers, gun shapes, and other Gangsta qualities seems like an a poor way to highlight that particular lifestyle, don’t you think?
Regardless of your stance however, Kristin’s renderings are still pretty sweet to look at no less. What do you think: Harbinger to needless violence or another geeky niche that is desperately needing filled?

Bobble heads they are not. Light they do not shine. These seemingly clever gadgets appear to at first be another geeky lamp. Upon closer inspection however, you’ll quickly notice they are in fact speakers. What’s different from normal Star Wars themed gimmicky gadgets is that these actually look really well done. That is of course based on physical looks alone.
How do they actually sound? That is another story — one that I cannot answer unfortunately. And without a spec sheet to run through speaker specs, I’m going to have to advise holding off for now. That is of course if you can contain yourself and keep that credit card in your wallet. Otherwise, by all means take the plunge and let us know how it goes.
Any Star Wars fans getting excited, or is it too gimmicky for ya?

While it seems the iPod/iPhone accessory market should be reaching a tipping point — that is, it’s so saturated how could anything exciting possibly catch out interest — new speaker/dock combos from Vestalife do a pretty good job.
There isn’t a built in coffee machine, 4th dimension features, or bionic qualities. Instead, Vestalife’s new array of docks and speakers bring a nifty design in the shape of a sphere.
Opening the sphere unveils two fairly large speakers, the dock connections, and all the buttons to make it sing. The coolest part however are the custom paint jobs — notice the Ohio Buckeyes design as an example.
So what do you think? Do you have a spot in your busy life and cluttered desk for another dock?

Speakers for better or worse haven’t really undergone that much of a transformation over the last 50-100 years save for slight achievements in build quality and integrity. New developments such as the “FleXpeaker by ITRI, a Taiwanese based company, are leading the way to flat, flexible speakers that will bring sound to countless new areas of our lives that were until this point void of any audible enjoyment. The FleXpeakers (pictured above) have a frequency range of 500Hz to 20KHz. Not club quality range mind you but still pretty darn good for a speaker you can bend. The manufacturer claims they “can be bent to a certain point without distorting”. How far is that “point of no return”? Beats me. We won’t know until we handle one. The mere thought of what we can do with flexible speakers not to mention the slew of new places we can put them leaves me simple spell bound.

I love music. Part of that love is finding the best possible sound quality I can…that which my budget allows anyway. However, if money were no object, these particular loudspeakers by YG Acoustics would be somewhere near the top. To many, the thought of spending even 1/16th the amount a pair of YG’s latest Anat Reference II Professional loudspeakers cost ($107,000 USD) is outrageous. But ask any audiophile, cost does not matter one bit. In essence it’s a lot like photography and professional photographers. When purchasing new equipment, they don’t even ask the cost. If it will make their pictures, (in this case music) look better, than by all means, melt that credit card. But even the most stringent audiophiles will feel their bank account weep with the stratospheric price tag that the Anat Reference II’s dish out.
According to YG Acoustics, the usable frequency range these giants produce extends from below an earth trembling 20 Hz all the way up to a dog exploading, bat killing 40 kHz with +/- 1dB. But sound alone doesn’t make these the “giants” of the loudspeaker world. The physical presence these loudspeakers take is quite astonishing. Weighing in at a tad over 440 lbs., standing 6ft. tall, and crafted out of aircraft grade 6061-T651 aluminum means these won’t fade into the background of your humble abode like those cute little speakers at Best Buy will. Not only will you hear these speakers, you will most certainly see them as well.
Again, the price tag will keep these out of reach for most of the human race. But if you’re the type that has pockets deep enough to reach through to China, then by all means splurge a little. If you have to even question the price tag or try to “reason” yourself into even thinking about spending that much money on a pair of sound output devices then you simply don’t get it. It’s ok. You’re not alone in this world.

Winter time can pose certain complications for gadget wearing foe. For example, while many walkers wear ear buds as their audio ear input of choice, easily slipping under most headwear, some prefer larger, more bulky styles. Obviously, these larger styles don’t always fit under headwear or simply look incredibly dorky. Thankfully a solution has entered into the arena by way of the iHat. Now I know the iHat is not the first contestant to vie for your hard earned cash in this niche, however, it is one of the more normal looking and functional options. As you can assume, the claim to fame for the iHat is that it keeps the stock beanie/winter hat form factor while implementing some audio beaters in strategically located places. In comparison to other styles of audio accessories like these that instead leave your head exposed, the iHat will keep you head nice and toasty while allowing you to keep the music blaring away in your head. As far as compatibility goes, a standard 3.5mm jack ensures that pretty that pretty much any device with an audio out/headphone jack will work with the iHat.
Perhaps the best part is the price — $25. Not too shabby in the least as many hats this style, especially designer hats can easily approach and surpass $25 while the iHat does everything those hats do plus going the extra mile and providing audio. Of course, for $25 and wrapped in a hat, don’t expect to be sonically blown away by quality. Still, $25, a warm head, and happy ears are might tempting. Are you hovering over the buy button yet?

If you like mashup gadgets, that is gadgets that try to impress by blending in multiple technologies, the wooden speaker-clock will surely be added to your list of must have gadgets. These wooden speakers look pretty normal to the naked eye, that is until your fire them up and see the digital clock shining through the wood. While it isn’t a particularly hard task to achieve, seeing any kind of light shine through wood causes one to do a double take just because it isn’t that common.
The two models, the Evergreen DN-WSP1802 (two-speaker) and DNWSP1406 (single-speaker) wooden speakers both feature a 3.5mm audio connection giving your universal connectivity with pretty much any device with an audio output. Sadly, these little wonders are only available in Japan for now meaning you’ll have to pay a pretty nice shipping fee — possibly even more than the modest $25 price tag. Gadget love knows no bounds…
