ThinkGeek Celebrates: 30 Years after the Empire struck back…

  • October 5, 2010 1:52 pm

What were you doing 30 years ago? Me? I wasn’t even a hapless floating protein in my mothers head. If you were more than a simple thought, however, you were probably there to see Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back in theaters. (You lucky devil you.) Even though I was born after the initial Star Wars trilogy was released, I still grew to appreciate the series for what it was — awesome. Over the years, Star Wars has only gained in popularity with countless fan clubs and downright cult-like groups professing their undying faith for the sci-fi flicks.

Naturally, new gear to rock your Star Wars fetish is always a welcome addition 30 years after the fact. With that said, ThinkGeek has two new goodies for all you Star Wars fans to get crazy over — the Wampa Rug and the C-3PO backpack. Starting with the latter, the C-3PO backup is…well…a backpack. You put stuff in it. Except this one is ultra nerdy because it’s Star Wars. As for the rug, it’s 62″ x 30″ in size which means it’s perfect for cuttin’ — or whatever else it is you may find to do on him.

$99.99 for the Wampa Rug and $59.99 for the C-3PO backpack.

Space Invaders constructed with Star Wars mini-figs.

  • August 12, 2010 8:55 am

Space Invaders scenes constructed out of miniature Star Wars figures. Does it get any geekier? I’d love to see you find something that is. From the brain of Chris McVeigh, the Star Wars Space Invaders plaque would make a fine addition to any wall. Too bad it’s not my own. But hey, it’s motivation for myself to get out there and get crafty. Be sure to check out Chris’s other nerdy toom foolery on his Flickr page.

Special edition R2-D2 DROID 2 and new Moto Droid (1) ROM leaked…

  • July 21, 2010 6:59 am

Where do we start? Eh, how about with the old — the 1st generation DROID. It’s still going strong with plenty of followers and new adopters, so any worries of it falling of the face of the planet are still a bit premature. On that note, Pete Alfonzo (BuglessBeast ROMS) has a new treat for us by way of a fresh ROM built off of the latest source code from Motorola. This new build — FRG01 — is completely deodexed meaning themers and other tweakers can be at peace.

Moving forward, the DROID 2 is starting to increase its medeia presence day by day. Today’s tidbit concerning the upcoming device is reportedly a special edition R2-D2 DROID 2 that will launch alongside a stock DROID 2. Obviously, Moto is milking the Star Wars ties for all its worth. Though I’ll admit, if give the choice, I’d definitely pick up a Moto DROID 2 with R2 on the back. Android and Star Wars — a geek fest in the palm of your hand… This R2 edition D2 has an August 12th release date rumor tagging along with it. We’ll see. Would you purchase a DROID 2 with R2 on the back, or are you the more silent type?

Rest assured that Patrick Boiv has captured all that makes up an AT-AT’s afternoon in his minute-long documentary dubbed: ” AT-AT Day Afternoon”

The ultimate fort: Millennium Falcon fort topper is just the beginning.

  • June 23, 2010 10:10 am

It’s never fun to watch a loved one in pain and illness. Even less so when the individual is a child. But the Make A Wish foundation aims to bring back some of that fantasy and careless freewill that youngsters till posses. So when Christopher, a 9-year old boy wished for the ultimate backyard fort with a Star Wars theme, history was made.

The Millennium Falcon you see above is merely the “topper”, as I’m told, with plenty more fort to be laid beneath it. Considering the topper is larger than a freakin’ car, the grand size of this fort ought to be something pretty amazing to see in person. Unfortunately, no pictures of this “finished” fort have been published (that I know of). Looks like we’ll have to keep dreaming and know that this Christopher kid has the ultimate backyard fort. ‘Nother shot inside…
