The fact we have to have this conversation is stupid. But I digress. If you want to catch the live stream of today’s “Back to Mac” event but don’t have one of the supported hardware devices from which to watch it from, there’s a much easier way.
Download VLC Media player and install it. Next, navigate to the media bar up top, select “Open Network Stream”, and type in the following URL:

Click play, enjoy.

Talk about stickin’ it to the man — a Brian McCrary of Bluff City, Tennessee was fuming over a recent speeding ticket he got compliments of those asinine speed cameras local governments are falling in love with thanks to increased revenue. The result was a $90 ticket for Brian.
However, hilarity ensues as Brian checked the local police department’s website and noticed that the domain was about to expire. So he did what any disgruntled and wronged townsperson would do in this event — he bought it! Better still, Brian re-launched the Bluff City Police Department’s website with nothing but anti-speed camera stories linking to content across the web.
The police department’s spokesperson responded saying:
“It’s just one of those things that happen,” Nelson said, adding that he turned the matter over to the town’s manager and attorney to see if there was anything they could do with it.
So far, McCrary said, he hasn’t heard anything from either town official about taking over the website.”
Ya, perhaps they should get on that, huh? Either way, BluffCitypd.com still has the anti-speeding content. Nice. Perhaps the ultimate example of “sticking it to the man”…

What would you say is the biggest “must-have” feature for the iPhone service wise? To some, it’s video calling. Others would prefer cheaper rates or tethering. While some still would argue a data-only plan. It makes sense. I personally hate talking on the phone. So a cheaper data-only plan would be amazing for someone such as myself. But here in the U.S., AT&T won’t even think of such things. So what do you do?
Simple: Get an iPad data plan and mod the micro-SIM so that it fits in your iPhone. Viola! A data-only plan for your iPhone…

If you want to give the finger to AT&T and Apple, what better way than to transcend across one of the most hallowed bans — 3G video streaming. EyeTV developed by elgato is your vehicle to do just that. Forget the fact that it’s an amazing piece of software that lets you record, rewind, edit, and watch video content ’till your heart’s content. The real deal is the latest development on the iPhone front. It’s sneaky, I feel bad hyping it up as it will only draw attention which will probably lead to the app being pulled. But the geek and good natured sharing person deep down can’t not share this with you. The dirty deed does come cheap and requires just a few steps.
- Register your Mac to the free MyEye TV service
- Download EyeTV iPhone app ($4.99)
And…ya that’s pretty much it. You Mac of course needs some sort of TV tuner to get this whole shindig on the road. Still, it’s simple huh? Launch the app on your iPhone over a 3G connection and you’ll get greeted with the typical dialog box warning that no WiFi means no video streaming for you. Tap “OK” and you’re left staring at a blank screen. Awesome. But that’s not all she wrote. Click on the actual text of the warning message and bam, “if you can’t give it to me I’ll take it” 3G streaming video.
Such methods aren’t the first attempts to get around Apple and AT&T’s draconian attempts at limiting the market. You may remember the Commodore 64 venture a few months back that snuck a code emulator through the App Store. Apple promptly removed it with the developers groveling how they didn’t mean to trick anyone. This is blatant FU your rules are whack. Brilliant I say.
If you want to hang on to this piece of backstabbing history, (and wonderful backstabbing it is), fire up the App Store on your Mac or iPhone and get downloadin’ because this probably won’t last long.

Anyone who knows something about something probably knows the big rip off, eye gouging, theft practices that goes on with the extremely over inflated cost of ink cartridges. Such wallet emptying practices never please anyone. The trend the last couple of years has been geared towards deception. For example, while ink cartridge prices have been falling on certain manufacturers models, the actual physical size of said cartridges is also falling — you’re getting the same raw deal folks. So what is a cash strapped, printer loving person such as yourself to do? Stick it to the man! How? Reclaim your money and freedom with a do-it-yourself project to turn your printer into a continuous ink printer. The fine folks over at Eddiem have laid out the instructions on doing this very task. Who’s ready to get their hands a little dirty?
