BlackBerry 9570 another yawner from RIM. (RIM wasting resources on too many hardware variations?)

  • September 22, 2010 7:11 am

I’m really getting depressed about this whole BlackBerry thing. I used to wait on the edge of my seat for new BlackBerry news. Now I’m reclined back, snacking on chips, and having a beer. (Read: I don’t care.) Take the 9570 as reason for my worry. The specs look like this: Same as Storm 2 with 512MB of RAM, 5MP camera, and OS 6. That’s it. There isn’t any radical hardware/software change or innovation to be had. Rumor on the streets is that it’s nothing more than a Storm 2 refresh instead of the Storm 3 which many a Crackberry are anxiously waiting for. Granted, I’ll give them some of my excitement too — the Storm 3 is supposed to feature LTE, a 1GHz processor, and be the death of that terrible clicky screen.

But this isn’t it. So we wait. In the meantime I’d offer up to RIM to stop wasting their time on product refreshes when the original product is less than a year old. Instead, put all of those resources to the next big milestone — in this case the Storm 3.

Wasted opportunities?

BlackBerry 9100 Pearl dropping on Fido May 4th?

  • March 29, 2010 1:50 pm

With all the full-QWERTY love RIM has been dishing out the last few quarters, Suretype users may feel like they’re getting ignored and getting left out in the cold to whither and die. Nothing could be further from the truth though as images of a revamped Pearl of sorts currently plotting along with the 9100 moniker have been spotted several times. So far, any real useful info such as price or release date have been MIA. But a new screenshot of a Fido inventory system has good news coming on relatively swift wings. If all goes according to plan, Fido customers could see a revamped Pearl/9100 drop on May 4th.

Those of you still managing to hobble along on 81xx hardware have reinforcements/relief coming soon. If you’re made it this far, another 5-6 weeks isn’t going to kill you. Excited?

BlackBerry 91xx (Pearl series) to feature full QWERTY, eschew SureType?

  • March 4, 2010 1:54 pm

Good news for SureType haters/81xx(Pearl) lovers, a new juicy rumor is floating around this afternoon concerning the input method for the upcoming Pearl based 91xx devices. There’s a fair chance that the SureType technology which crams two letters per key could be taken off the books by the time the next skinny Berry hits the streets. The news doesn’t come from RIM or any close 3rd party partner. Instead, a random part found on “TrueSupplier” poses itself as a replacement keyboard for the BlackBerry Pearl 9100 smartphone. Seeing as how pictures or really any concrete information surrounding the 9100 hasn’t been released (or even leaked), this full QWERTY Pearl rumor is pretty intriguing.

Some may be cringing right now at the thought of that larger QWERTY crammed into roughly half the space. But if you really think about it, it wouldn’t be that bad at all. Look at the Palm Pixi. It’s a rather slim device that has a pretty decent full QWERTY. I personally never was too thrilled with SureType’s on/off guestimations with what I was trying to say.

What do you think? A full QWERTY slim Pearl device sound like something you’d want?

BlackBerry 9100 with T-Mo 1700MHz band gets caught in visual format. As always, fuzzy specs of matter add just the right amount of mystery.

  • February 1, 2010 11:34 pm

Sorry for the long title. All I can say is that it’s late and I’m not exactly firing on all cylinders — it’s hard being witty in a limited amount of characters. But before I go on and on about my sentence structures and grammar…

The BlackBerry 9100 — the 3G Pearl — the miniature messiah. Ok, so maybe the last one isn’t an “official” 9100 nickname. To many BlackBerry users not into the full qwerty style of pretty much every Berry however, a 3G equipped and chopped down thumb bender would certainly make make their lives exponentially easier.

The entire tech world has known of this 3G Pearl for some time. Unfortunately, the powers that be have so far decided they don’t want to reveal this public knowledge quite yet. Fair enough. Until that wonderful day we’ll just have to make due with these almost mysterious fuzz-filled photos of a 3G Pearl showing what appears to be support for T-Mobile’s goofy ass 1700 MHz slice of radio pie. Hmmm 1700MHz pie. Anyone hungry?

Verizon Storm2 coming to town October 28th.

  • October 22, 2009 8:10 pm

What’s today? For me in (EST) I’m still staring at Thursday on the computer. *sigh*. If you’re in the same slump, cheer up! For October 28th is but a mere 6 days away. You know what that means? The BlackBerry Storm 2 which is exponentially leaps and bounds ahead of it’s more trouble ridden, 1st gen brother. The image above comes from CrackBerry via some brave Verizon worker who was able to snap a shot of the Verizon intranet page in all it’s underground glory. With the Storm2, text input is drastically improved as is many other areas pertaining to software. On the hardware side of things, the Storm2 received a gentle face lift that overall is a nice step up from the original. Still, with the Moto DROID breathing down the Storm 2′s launch date neck, who’s looking at giving this Berry a pass?

Surepress: “I’m baaaaaaack”

  • May 28, 2009 5:02 am

bush_confused

While new info about the Storm 2 was revealed last week, most importantly, the observation that the Surepress “click” touchscreen was missing, would lead one to assume that said technology won’t be present on RIM’s next rendition of the love-it-or-hate-it Blackberry. However, after RIM CEO Mike Lazaridis sat down and layed the record straight at D7 yesterday, the Storm 2′s typing abilities are now even more in question. Mr. Lazaridis was quoted as saying: “Surepress is here to stay”, which also would leave many to assume that “click” touchscreens will be on the next Storm. But what about that new screen on the Storm 2 that was floating around Crackberry? It could be possible that RIM has figured out a new way to mimic clicking on screen without having to actually have the screen move (a great idea). Whatever the case, there are still plenty of questions regarding the screen left unanswered. Confused?
