Sci-fi geeks: Your savior has arrived. His name is “Ecci”, short for Eccerobot (Ecce in Latin means Lo or Behold). Ecci is being dubbed the world’s most technologically advanced robot thanks to a complex system of bones, ligaments and tendons all constructed from plastic and powered by small electric motors.
But even cooler than Ecci’s human-like body is ability to learn from his mistakes — the holy grail of robots. When Ecci makes a movement that causes him to fall or fails some other task, his brain analyzes the data to find an optimal solution that prevents him from repeating the same mistake.
Thanks to the scientists at the University of Zurich headed by director Rolf Pfeifer, human robotics just took a giant leap forward. Now how long do we have to wait until Ecci is capable of fixing us breakfast, eh guys?
Check out a video after break showing Ecci what he does best…

If the above title doesn’t make you cringe or feel uncomfortable, the following information might just succeed. Carbon based fuels that have propelled pretty much every moving machine since the gasoline engine was first invented have completely taken a hold of our society. With global warming climate change wreaking havoc on our little blue planet, fuel resources drying up, and tensions with the gatekeepers of said resources not getting any more rosy, the quest for alternative fuels or energy sources becomes very important. While this quest isn’t a new one, the last several years have seen (more publicly anyway) more alternative energy sources explored and tested.
The military as of late has been working on special robots that could make energy not from the dirty old carbon based fuels or available everywhere solar power, but instead something that is a little more living: biomass. Now biomass normally brings images of cute little plants and other planty looking material, but, if you’re sending machines onto a battlefield that seek out living energy sources, how easy do you think you could create one that would literally eat your enemies? Yes, the robots’ munchies for the human crunchies is on. Is a real life terminator/war of the worlds on the horizon?

While some people would be devastated beyond belief and lost with the loss of an eye, Rob Spence has taken the high tech road and decided not to let such trivial things as eye sight loss slow him down. Instead of wearing a god awful patch or even the more common glass eye, Rob has taken it upon himself to replace said eyeball with a tiny video camera instead. His little experiment is quite the story isn’t it. While I have absolutely no intentions, wishes, or wants of losing my own eyes, if this ever did happen to me, I would totally to something like this. Wouldn’t you? Who doesn’t want to look like the terminator?! Want to see more? Check out this video.
