Amassing a ginormous collection of LEGOs — good. Amassing an equally large assortment of Star Wars memorabilia — also, very good. Blending the two together over and over again — geek sensory overload. Geeks like gadgets. Geeks like Star Wars. It’s actually a well known yet scientifically undocumented fact. So you could imagine that an alarm clock with a Star Wars theme completely constructed out of LEGOs would be a smashing hit? Well, what do you think about this — a Star Wars Lego Alarm Clock? Feature nuts will be let down as basic snooze and alarm functions are about as complex as it gets. But that isn’t the point here now is it? Sometimes it’s the simplest things that are the most sought after.

I’ve seen some rather unique and odd gadget pairings before, but the skateboard coo-coo clock is definitely one of the weirder ones. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not knocking this fine display of creativity, merely get a small laugh out of two completely unrelated things being mashed into one.
One you get past the oddity at first sight, you begin to realize that no matter the things combined, even this skateboard clock is cool and desirable in it’s own way.
$55 sound right?

It’s the weekend. Time to relax right? Right! So how about a little more light hearted reading? Or maybe you’re looking for a small weekend project to keep you occupied? Well, I’m going to kill two birds with one stone here: The iBook G4 Clock.
If you’ve got an old iBook G4 sitting around or you know where to pick one up cheap, ripping out the internals and turning it into something a bit more useful in the age of Macbook Pros and quad-core mobile processors seems just about right.
If you’re not into the whole “weekend project” type of thing you’re in luck. Someone is doing the work for you and asking a small $75 fee for the trouble. If you’re intrigued, that someone goes by the name “pixelinfo” and can be found selling the iBook G4 Clock over on her Etsy page. Have at it.

Some people pride themselves in their ornate and sophisticated plans and schedules they lay their lives out in. Such ways to approach the daily grind aren’t necessarily bad, they just don’t allow for any flexibility in my opinion. Others however find a kind of rush by “flying by the seat of their pants” into any and all situations. Which one are you? It really doesn’t matter. The Robot Alarm knows no right or wrong. Whatever type of person you are, organized or completely chaotic is nothing to this little alarm. The only thing it longs for is a loving (or not) touch from you each morning letting it know you’re still alive. $13.69 for waking up a little nerdier and a little happier. What say ye?

And another funny, time passing picture to make your Monday less painful….
Above we have a rare occurrence of Star Wars and Star Trek blending. Though is such an occurrence really that rare. Space is huge and all, but you’ve got to meet at some point….right? R2-D2 floating through space kind of reminds of Mini me floating through space in Austin Powers. Except R2-D2 doesn’t sound like a toddler…
Full-size pic inside.

Have a craving for real time information such as the actual time, temperature, humidity and the current weather conditions? The consumer market place is flooded full of these multi-purpose gadgets that tell us these bits of information with some doing much more. Though often times, the more features the get crammed in, the price goes higher while the quality falls lower. Such a sad balance it is. Moving on, if you’ve ever looked at these various time/weather stations and thought that they were functionally sound but looked as if they were styled (or lack thereof) by someone who flunked out of design school, the Wood Station Clock may just surprise you. Featuring smooth lines and a rather neutral, natural wood styling, this particular station is actually pretty appealing. The cool part of course is that it is all made out of wood yet is illuminated from the inside. Hardly a new novelty, though still cool to see none the less. So far all of you that need to know the detailed weather forecast and that little thing we all care so much about, Mr. Time, the Wood Station Clock may suit your fancy. Now you’ll just have to play the waiting game — October/$175.

From time to time, a I see a concept that is just plain cool. It may not be that high on the necessity list, but again, the sheer coolness instantly catapults it to the top of my list of many interests. So it is with that, that I bring you the concept of the day: Visual Voltage Clock. While the VVC will tell you the time just like any other earthly time telling device, the more intriguing and eye appealing feature is the ability to wireless monitor your electricity usage and display it on the clock face. While some will be embarrassed by a clock face that is literally exploding with excitement from the large amount of electricity their server farm is sucking down, most will be entertained at the visual spectacle before them. If you’d like to catch this item in the flesh, best book a plane ticket and prepare for Design September Brussels. Oh yeah…I definitely want one.

Now I’m not really sure if geeks and gadget nerds have some weird fascination with time and clocks, but the sheer amount of clocks I see geared towards us more technically inclined few sure has me wondering. Moving on, the Peek Clock as it is so cleverly called gives time seekers a glance into the realm of time as the numbers “fade” in and out of existence. Looking at the picture above, one can see how minutes are also taken care of — a simple white dot that travels around the face of the clock gives you a precise position as to what two digits make up the rear end of time. This chic time teller will cost you slightly more than your average clock however. If the $74 price is right, stop on by Chiasso and claim your prize.

Every geek big or small, young or not so young may use the back-to-school season as an excuse/reason to splurge on that new gadget they’ve been waiting on or holding out for. Even if you’re not a student, there are often some great deals to be had as companies and manufacturers far and wide want to cash in on the spending spree that takes place every year ’round the time the bell’s start to ring. Since we live in the digital age, it seems fitting that as we move towards more and mroe digital devices, a gadget back to school list be created. Time magazine has done just that, though, some of the options are rather pricey meaning only those with hard to find money trees will complete the list.
