  • February 8, 2012 1:44 pm

Tweetbot 2.0 has been teased around twitter for the last couple of weeks. Though if you follow either @tapbots_paul or the official @tweetbot account, you’ll know the taunting has been especially brutal the last couple of weeks. But the waiting is finally over. Tweetbot 2.0 is here. Hop past the break for a breakdown of the new features and screenshots…

First Shots Of Carbon For iOS Hit The Web.

  • February 7, 2012 10:47 pm

@CarboniOS just tweeted a couple of screenshots of the upcoming Carbon for iOS Twitter client (and then subsequently removed them). But were fast like ninja tonight. (Update: New ones are now up.)

For those not familiar with Carbon, it was one of the most popular Twitter clients for webOS. Now that that journey has run its course, the team has been focusing on bringing the awesomeness of Carbon to Android, iOS, and WP7.

Carbon For Android Getting Closer To Completion. New Screenshots Tickle Our Fancy.

  • January 29, 2012 11:51 am

The Twitter scene on Android is going to soon be receiving a very much needed, welcome competitor. Carbon for Android is one of the several new projects that the Carbon team is working on (WP7 and iOS versions also in the works) since their original platform of choice (webOS) essentially bit the dust.

Over the last week a couple of pictures of both the general timeline view and threaded DMs have been tweeted by the company’s @CarbonAndroid. And today, the team posted several more images, this time depicting the profile view.

What’s immediately clear after looking at the images is that Carbon for Android will be pretty unique when compared to all of the other Android Twitter clients currently available, and dare we say, much more polished. Now, if the Carbon team can push out a good looking and functional, smooth app, well, we’ll be happy as clams.

This Guy Tweeted Via Snail Mail With People Halfway Across The World.

  • December 20, 2011 9:56 am

Banging out tweets is usually a quick affair whether by computer or mobile device. Technology has made our lives so fast paced, sometimes we forget the simpler, slower methods of communicating — Snail Mail. But could you actually get the same level of interaction that one of the fastest modern communication hubs, Twitter, provides via traditional mail service?

A freelance writer by the name of Giles Turnball asked himself that very same question until one day, he did just that. After confirming several volunteers, Giles began sending/replying to tweets via post card. As you can gather, responses from Giles took many days and even strenched into the week time frame.

“The mechanics of it took a while to work out. Most difficult was replicating my personal Twitter timeline—how could I post the same thing to everyone? Well, by writing it out lots of times.

For those “public” tweets, I wrote the same thing out 15 times, on 15 cards, and sent them to 15 different people. This took every moment as long as you might think; possibly a little longer.

Other tweets were easier to do. The analogue of sending an @reply or a DM is simply sending one card to one person. Much simpler. Soon after starting the project, I settled on these as the best way of communicating.”

While it’s not something we’d readily embark on, we commend Giles for his Tweet-by-Post project. At the very least it’s intriguing, no?

Poll: Favorite iOS Twitter App.

  • December 12, 2011 8:27 am

I’ve been using Twitter 4.0 pretty heavily since its release this past Friday. One thing that’s immediately apparent: Twitter wasn’t kidding when they said they were going after newcomers as opposed to appeasing seasoned Twitter veterans. But truth be told, there are many things I do like about the new 4.x app, starting with the overall design. More functional aspects, however, leave a bit to be desired — it takes too many clicks to do a lot of things now, and the Twitter team has either continued to leave out or even removed features/functionality. In short: Twitter 4.0 is a controversial release.

With that said, I find myself sort of in Twitter app limbo between Twitter 4.0 and Tweetbot, my longtime favorite. Though if I had to choose one, it would still be Tweetbot.

Twitter Rolls Out Embeddable Tweets. Bloggers Rejoice!

  • December 8, 2011 3:16 pm

Find yourself writing about Twitter-based material a lot? Along with new UI/functionality for the Android and iOS apps as well as a revamped Twitter.com web portal, Twitter also unleashed another new gem: Embeddable tweets.

Users of WordPress and Posterous blogs can simply copy the tweet URL or shortcode into a post and the respective services will automagically display the embedded tweet (as seen immediately above). For everyone else, simply clicking “embed this tweet” right next to the time stamp information on the bottom of a tweet nets the image up top, giving you options for how to embed any given tweet. Also included: The ability to 1-click follow any twitter user from the embedded tweet — nice.

Pretty cool, eh?

What’s Next For Loren Brichter, Creator Of Tweetie?

  • November 7, 2011 7:04 am

Back when the App Store started taking off in 2008, one of the most high profile companies to not have an official app was Twitter. For official support iOS users had to turn to 3rd party developers. One such developer, Loren Brichter, founded the company “atebits” and released a wonderfully designed and functional app simply called “Tweetie”. The app was so good in fact that Twitter eventually acquired Tweetie (and ate bits) back in April of 2010, re-branded it as the official Twitter app, and released it for iOS and Mac..

Fast forward over a year and a half later — today we’ve learned that Loren is setting his sails to new lands. He’s officially leaving Twitter. As of writing he’s not entirely sure what’s next. But given his previous stint with Tweetie we’d have to say something awesome in terms of software. Here’s to hoping Loren’s next creation is as great as his last.

Twittelator Neue Looks Awesome! (Gives TweetBot A Run For The Money?)

  • October 12, 2011 11:20 pm

We’re not going to beat around the bush — we love TweetBot. It’s easily our favorite Twitter client thanks to the wonderfully done custom design work, unique sounds, and fat stack of features. But Twittelator Neue could very well become our new favorite.

After the break is a nice little Twittelator Neue teaser video showing off the unique UI tweaks of its own as well as navigation enhancements that frankly leave us tickled. Combine all the awesome design work and feature set with a $1.99 price tag and you’ve got a contender for “Best iOS Twitter app”.

The only downfall keeping Twittelator Neue from becoming our instant favorite: Lack of Push Notifications. Yes, we know it’s costly, especially for smaller developer outfits. But if consumers are really supposed to use Twitter as a real-time communication tool then it needs to be…real-time. None of this manually checking/polling nonsense. Hopefully the Twittelator team finds a way to add the aforementioned feature in a not too distant update.
