Speed. Pure blinding speed. That’s what Super Talent is dishing out with their “Super Talent RAIDDrive” USB 3.0 flash drive. Instead of crawling along at USB 2.0′s pathetic excuse for speed, the RAIDDrive will effectively shuttle your 1′s and 0′s back and forth before you even know what’s happening. According to Super Talent, the drive will run at a brisk 200MB/s (with a legacy driver). If using a newer, A UASP driver (USB Attached SCSI) driver, end users will be able to achieve up to 320MB/s continuously meaning the mid-range 64GB flavor can be filled in as little as 3 minutes. Now that’s something worth getting excited over isn’t it! Initially, the RAIDDrive will come in 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB flavors with further additions likely as flash memory prices come down. Imagine that, a 128GB flash drive that you can actually fill before your body ceases existing…

Now if only we could get any computer hardware that makes use of and supports USB 3.0….

Add an extra level of security to your digital bits with the USB Fingerprint Security Flash Drive

usb-finger2

Fingerprint scanners and readers are becoming more ubiquitous on laptops as the threat of theft with a mobile device is obviously much higher than that of a desktop based computer. Flash drives with encryption technologies are nothing new either. However, blending the two while itself also is not “new”, is still something that isn’t widely seen in the flash drive scene yet. If mobile security is at the top of you list, you may want to give the USB Fingerprint Security Flash Drive a look. While the drive tops out at 16GB, you are only allowed to secure up to a nerdy technical 7.79GB of data with the remaining 7.11GB of data free for wondering eye to see. As far as other specs go, the drive comes across as just a so-so deal. But is it really? Read on to find out.

Memory Pill USB Drive: Clever design. Worthless amount of storage capacity. All for $18

While you may be looking at the picture above completely captivated and entranced, wondering when and where you can pick up your very own Memory Pill USB Flash Drive, may be experiencing a case of “blinded by the light” syndrome.  That is, they are getting distracted by the pretty pictures.  However, coming to find out that this super neat flash drive only has a laughable and seemingly worthless 64MB of actual storage capacity should snap anyone back to reality pretty damn quick.  While $18 usually is a pretty good amount for an average sized USB drive, that same amount for 2002 storage sizes make this drive all but obsolete and sure not to sell from the get go.  Why would someone make a flash drive with such a limited storage capacity?  Usually I would say lowering the storage capacity would help lower the dollar amount.  Although this time that ideology appears flawed.  What’s your guess?

1.8″ 240GB mini portable hard drive by Apricorn

  • March 13, 2009 11:21 am

miniusb

If you need a really portable hard drive and high capacity flash drives just aren’t big enough (or too expensive), Apricorn may have something right up your alley.  Traditional portable hard drives such as a Western Digital Passport are based off of 2.5″ laptop hard drives.  This latest miniature wonder from Apricorn uses an even smaller 1.8″ hard drive that manages to cram 240GB of space for all of your 1′s and 0′s.  Because the drive uses a smaller technology, it is a little more pricy than it’s bigger cousins with the 240GB drive weighing in at $269.  Other sizes available include 80GB and 120GB.  For those of you who just need to know the actual size of the drive: 17mm x 68.5mm x 86mm.  So if size and storage mean a lot to you, give Apricorn a try.
