“Visual voicemail for home” launched by AT&T

  • October 1, 2010 11:55 am

If you’re one of millions of AT&T U-verse users, you’ve got a new handy dandy feature headed your way. Coming soon to a smartphone (still undetermined) near you, AT&T Voicemail Viewer will allow users to remotely listen to and manage home voicemails left on traditional land line systems from the comfort of the open road. Currently, there’s no mention of what actual smartphones will be supported. Complicating those seeking more, pointing your browser to att.com/vmviewer as is stated in the press release serves up a nasty 404 error instead. Whoops!

No worries, folks. AT&T should have that little snafu fixed lickity split, at which point I’ll share the good word with the lot of you…

Google Voice exits invite-only stage. Now available to all!

  • June 22, 2010 2:49 pm

If you’re one of the handful of people who haven’t managed to snag a Google Voice invite yet, your wait and frustration are now over. Google has officially taken the “invite-only” status off of Google Voice. You know what that means? STOP paying extra for visual voicemail add-ons from whatever US carrier you currently have (assuming you have a smartphone that is), since Google Voice is ultimately leaps and bounds ahead of said options as well as pulling off that feat completely free! Add on the fact that SMS and email transcriptions are also available for Google Voice subscribers as well as the ability to have up to 10 separate numbers/devices ring/alerted when your GV number is called.

Ok, the transcriptions might be sketchy at best. But there’s no denying the usefulness that Google Voice offers. If you have the option to install Google Voice on your device, now is the time.

Oh yeah — US only for now. Sorry folks.

Productivity junkies, listen up. YouMail 2.0 is officially available. Along with the whole host of useful features that made YouMail 1.0 a breakthrough app back it’s glory day are several new features that you may want to look at.

A new, prettier face, better organization tools, a rework of the transcription technology, and faster delivery of voicemail mean an already solid mobile app is just that much better.

But don’t take my word for it. Instead, pilfer on through the carefully crafted press release…just after the jump.

BlackBerry Bold users rejoice, this afternoon will bring good fortune to you and your beloved piece of Canadian born hardware. RIM announced earlier that an update to the BlackBerry Bold firmware will bring two pretty big updates with it along with the usual performance fixes and other general bug fixes. But we don’t care about those mundane bug fixes. Nooo sir (or mam). We care about the numero uno updates such as Visual Voicemail and 2G/3G mode selection…

Visual Voicemail to be MIA on Pre launch day?

Visual Voicemail is quickly becoming a much sought after feature for many consumers in that it makes sifting through voicemails much easier. The Pre has been rumored and even claimed to have Visual Voicemail support. But will it really? Thanks to the new age breaking news provider, Twitter, a tweet on Palm’s Twitter account sadly depicts a not so rosey launch for Pre/VV happiness. As the tweet capture (above) clearly shows, Visual Voicemail will not be debuting with the Pre on the 6th. Instead the developer community will have to do Palm’s job and bring the service to market. Is anyone upset, sad, angry, couldn’t care less that Palm is slacking? Coupled with the in house shortage, the Pre is starting to lose its luster, at least for me anyway. Anyone else feeling the same?

Visual Voicemail to grace T-Mobile on July 16th?

One of the early advantages of the iPhone was the ability to have Visual Voicemail. At the time, it was the only phone with an interface as clean and easy to view and listen to voicemails in the order that you pleased. Fast forward two years and now other carriers and 3rd party vendors are finally starting to release their own Visual Voicemail applications. If the leaked image above, (courtesy of TMO News), showing a T-Mobile release schedule for the second half of the summer has any grains of truth to it, T-Mobile customers could be in for a real treat indeed. According to the image above, July 16th will be the day that Visual Voicemail will be released to T-Mobile USA customers. As of writing, the actual devices that would actually be able to access and use the service is unknown. Currently, Google’s G1 can take advantage of Visual Voicemail, albeit through a 3rd party program. Still, it’s better than nothing. Right?

This is a first look at Visual Voicemail on the Blackberry Bold, brought to you by the never faltering Boy Genius.  The included screenshots are showcasing Blackberry OS 4.6.0.219 from AT&T.  As you can see from the screenshots, it looks clean and simple and is certainly an update that Blackberry users have been waiting for.  Their isn’t a release date yet, but Boy Genius is reporting that it is “sooner than we think.”  So, it shouldn’t be much longer.  Click through for a few more pics.
