Mobile applications and the smartphone have changed the world in which we live today in some pretty profound ways. One particular instance of this is how the U.S. military has adopted various mobile apps to help with war-time needs. With that said, the latest mobile app to get DoD interest is T2 Moodtracker. Instead of acting as a tool to fight, T2 Moodtracker helps treat/calm down soldiers with head injuries and/or anger issues stemming from battle wounds, and helps doctors evaluate the mental health of the soldier. The words of wisdom:
Health Tip: One source of anger is fear. The next time you get angry, ask yourself what made you afraid. If you work on the fear, the anger will get better.
….
Health Tip: Try to avoid words like ‘should,’ ‘shouldn’t,’ ‘must,’ ‘ought,’ ‘always,’ ‘have to,’ or ‘need to.’ Statements including these words tend to increase anger.
It’s pretty cool to see something as small and simple as a mobile app for a consumer smartphone make the cross to the battlefield.

Nerds such as myself take pride in showing off our geeky sides wherever it may be. My desk at work is but another canvas to paint the nerdy image of my life day in and day out. We’ve all seen various USB gadgets, nerdy clocks, and shape shifting gizmos, but what we haven’t seen is a desktop canon.
This tiny canon isn’t your standard geek toy, firing nerf darts or anything “harmless”. Instead, light up the fuse and prepare yourselves for quite a punch — an actual metal canon ball shrunken down to size though still plenty powerful to do some damage.
In the video (inside), you can see that again, while small, the canon balls launched by this miniature Goliath are strong and fast moving enough to puncture a pop can!
Cubicle security just got a massive kick in the pants…

Miniature qwerty keyboards have been popping up more and more recently across mobile devices of all types in a move by manufacturers to cater to the growing trend of texters, mobile emailers, and social butterflies. The military often treads a very different path. While their technology and gadgets are still top of the line and current, the gadgets themselves when based off of consumer electronics are often a few generations behind the curve. It seems the military is finally coming into the modern era with the iKey AK-39 snap on, wrist mounted qwerty keyboard. Fat fingered, glove wearing soldiers shouldn’t have a problem with this souped up keyboard that is built to take a beating. According to the manufacturer:
“The AK-39’s small-footprint design features essential components for military and public safety applications, including an integrated Force Sensing ResistorTM (FSR) pointing device with left- and right-click functionality, and adjustable green LED backlighting that is also available in a night vision (NVIS) compatible configuration. Designed with gloved users in mind, the AK-39’s snap-on faceplate eliminates accidental key strokes and can be easily removed to clean the pad.
One other notable mention includes MIL-461 compliance ensuring you precious military edition keyboard can take the harsh realities and punishments twittering on the battlefield will bring forth. Hip hip hooray!
