Here I sit on a lazy Sunday afternoon, looking for things to write about and things to spur my imagination. Finding a few crafty fellows zapping the hell out of common electronic parts with 16 kila joules of electricity is certainly attention worthy. The video above is full of electronic deaths in epic if not somewhat visually unimpressive spark shows. Though there are a few gems. Go ahead and give it a look.

Some kids spend the long stretches of summer and winter breaks playing video games and sleeping in late. The more entrepreneurial meanwhile take a seemingly innocent bumper car and transform it into a 100% street legal driving machine…

Ready to feel the wind in your hair? Getting in touch with the open elements and looking geeky at the same time has never been cooler. The car you see above is an actual bumper car that has been modified to meet all road going laws. Yes, all laws. This is bar far the coolest car I’ve seen yet. If you ever find yourself with the fortune of riding in such a fine vehicular specimen, do remember your helmet. The concept of this car isn’t exactly safety. Ramming into fellow motorists in the iron cage is all good, but out in the real world it’s a different game. The infamous David vs. Goliath (read: bumper car vs. Mack Truck) just doesn’t seem like a fair fight to me…

The Word Clock

Clocks have had the same general design and means of telling time for centuries. Sure they’ve progressed technologically from say a sun dial to a digital clock that displays numbers, but the overall concept is the same. Also true, attempts to radically change the way time is displayed such as some clocks which show the time in binary or with some other creative combination of fancy shapes and or characters are often hard to decipher.

The Word Clock however is actually fairly easy to glean the necessary information from. The designer and creator was inspired after seeing a similar clock on an industrial design website and decided to try his own hand at home made geekery. This clock will certainly test your geeky skills as you’re going to have to get your hands dirty. If you don’t have 120 LED’s laying around the house, you might want to start there. Other things to brush up on would be your etching skills, and knowledge of circuit boards and other things geek. Hey, actually being a geek isn’t for the faint of heart.
