It looks like Motorola Mobility will be debuting some sort of wireless charging at this year’s CES. The Motorola Mobility YouTube channel just gave us a little teaser video showing a USB plug sitting on the counter crying. The tag-line reads; “Stay Unplugged.”
We’ll be there front and center and will let you know the second we see what they have in planned. Anyone excited yet about CES this year? Only a couple more days and we’ll be in the thick of it. Be sure to follow us throughout the week as we’ll be hitting as much as we can!
Okay, really? Really? I’m going to ask all of you readers a quick question, first, have you ever wanted your iPhone to be about 2 to 3 times as thick as it already is? Do you think the entire World is going to be made out of Case Mate’s charging pads? I didn’t think so, but Case Mate thinks you do, and want to pay 100 bones for it.
With all the ways to charge your iPhone out there, Case Mate quite possibly stumbled upon the “greatest” way to do it, well, if you answered ‘yes’ to my two questions above. They have released their new *wireless* ‘Hug‘ with a tag price of $100. Here it is in a nutshell; you put on big hug(e) stylish case, then, you plug in Hug pad(with wire), then, you lay iPhone, contained in case, on top of the pad. You can then charge your iPhone. Well, this would be somewhat of ingenious idea, *if* the entire world had these little pads plugged in everywhere, or if you were really fond of this case. What if you keep your iPhone in a smaller sleeker case, you have to take it out, to put it in this biggin, and lay it on a pad, or you can just keep your old case on, and plug the damn thing in.
I really like the avenue they are trying to take, but come on. Think this through Case Mate. If you want to send me one to give an actual review on, I’d be happy to give it a week to try out, to see if it can change my mind, but at first glances, I don’t see the attraction, I actually see it being more inconvenient then awesome. But that is just me, why not give their promo video a look…
In what perhaps is the “holy grail” of battery technology, wireless charging has fascinated scientists and tech nerds alike for some time. While improved battery technologies that allow longer run times between charges and different methods such as accessory aided wireless charging (more or less Palm Pre and Touchstone), the coolest and biggest goal to reach is that of wireless, accessory free charging. To put it in more lamens terms, pulling battery juice right out of thin air. Is it starting to sound like a science fiction movie?
