LG Announces HDTV’s with Netflix Streaming

LG makes some rather nice HDTV’s.  Netflix is becoming the favored way to rent and watch movies, giving us more control over when and how we watch them.  Put the two together and you have a match made in heaven.  The easy to use Netflix service coupled with the great video quality of LG TV’s.  Today LG announced just that, TV’s that will be able to stream Netflix movies straight to the TV without the need for a separate device such as a Roku Netflix Player, Xbox 360,  TiVo DVR, specially equipped Blu-Ray players equipped with Netflix streaming, or a PC to watch it on your TV.  The “Netflix TV’s” will come with an ethernet jack that will connect your TV to the internet and allow the direct streaming.  This added benefit doesn’t come free however.  Expect an added $300 on top of the standard prices.  While it is more expensive than the other options listed above, which run between $99-$199, new technology always carriers a premium.  But the true gadget lovers will gladly pay the premium price for admission.  Besides Netflix video, expect YouTube and Cinema Now content to eventually make their way to these TV’s as well.

TV’s with direct internet connectivity whether it be through an ethernet jack or wireless, is a very exciting glimpse of TV of the future.  Hopefully the move towards TV over the internet will bring new and exciting opportunities for consumers!
