As we get closer to March the iPad 3 goodies contine to leak out. The latest leak has Mac enthusiast site, MacRumors, comparing a rumored iPad 3 display they acquired alongside an iPad 2 display. They found that the alleged iPad 3 display had 4×4 pixels and the iPad 2 had 2×2. The 4×4 pixels would of course give the iPad 3 considerably better picture quality and more attracting graphics, and follows current rumors claiming the iPad 3 will ship with a much higher resolution display.

Since we only had a raw iPad 3 display with no method to power it, taking high quality photos of the pixels was difficult. Still, even with the relatively poor lighting, you can easily make out the pixels on each display (made up of red, green and blue elements). We highlighted a cluster of 4 pixels (2×2) from the iPad 2 to compare it to the same area on the iPad 3. On the iPad 3, the same cluster was occupied by 16 pixels (4×4) — exactly twice the resolution in each direction.

The iPad 3 is expected to have this high-res “Retina Display”, a new A6 chip, and LTE for models with cellular data capabilities. Apple will most likely announce the iPad 3 on March 7th at a media event. Who knows, there might be other things announced there too!
