Shocker: Sony Withheld Severity Of PSN Hack.

  • June 15, 2011 3:01 pm

In a new report published today by Kyodo News, it is alleged that Sony knew the full extent of the PSN breach but delayed announcing their findings in a feeble attempt to lessen public outcry. Of course, the exact opposite happened as more details trickled out and it was suggested Sony was deliberately withholding information.

The official report claims Sony acknowledged the PSN hack and the severity of the breach on April 25th though told the public on April 26th that they “couldn’t rule out the possibility” of such an attack. Furthermore on May 1st the company claims they didn’t even know of the hack until April 26th — the same day they finally alerted the public.

Sony responded to the report and maintained that they didn’t know the full extent of the hack and didn’t want to “bewilder” customers with false alarms if it was “only” information such as PSN account names and passwords that were stolen. Unfortunately for Sony they took their sweet time releasing information to the public whom did have personal information stolen in various forms.

The question on everyone’s minds now is what will the Japanese government do with these new allegations that Sony deliberately misled the public?

[Update] EA Pulling Games From Steam To Promote “Origin” Digital Storefront?

  • June 15, 2011 10:11 am

It never ceases to amaze us just how backwards-thinking company executives and marketing people can really be. Usually when we talk of such complete technological incompetence we’re dealing with the music/movie industry. Today, however, it is EA with news of Crysis 2 being pulled from the highly popular Steam digital storefront in order to promote EA’s own digital storefront, Origin.

On the surface, it may seem like a good idea to remove the competition by permanently restricting the the sale of your games, or at the very least employing an exclusive period. But in the grander scheme of things it’s a disappointing oversight…

Terrible PR Move: Blacklisting Journalists For Negative Reviews. [Duke Nukem]

  • June 15, 2011 9:40 am

Often times when we speak of censorship it usually entails some sort of government/political tie-in. Though admittingly there are many other areas in society where “censorship” rears its ugly head. Unfortunately for Duke Nukem PR firm The Redner Group, today is the day in which the world learns just how shallow they really are. A couple of tweets sent out late yesterday from @TheRednerGroup threatened blacklisting journalists for negative reviews of the new Duke Nukem game…

Next Gen Xbox To Debut At E3 2012, Use DirectX 11, Feature 3D?

  • June 15, 2011 12:04 am

Microsoft’s E3 keynote came and went this year without any new hardware unveiled or even mentioned. Sony followed a similar path. It was Nintendo and Nintendo alone who had some new gear for the gaming world to poke and prod. And even though we certainly see the potential of the Wii U, we see it as more of a catchup to Microsoft and Sony’s current hardware than anything truly groundbreaking. With that said, while Microsoft may have disappointed legions of gamers in 2011, 2012 will be very different if recent claims by VideoGamer.com citing Crysis developer, Crytek, are to be believed…

Sega Executive: “Wii U Will Launch Spring/Summer 2012.”

  • June 13, 2011 8:28 am

Nintendo may not be ready to divulge just when their next-gen console will hit the market, but that isn’t stopping Sega from spilling the beans themselves. During an interview at last weeks E3 trade show, Alan Pritchard, Sega’s executive Vice President of Marketing claimed that Nintendo’s Wii U will be released in the Spring/Summer 2012 time frame.

Seeing as how this came from someone other than Nintendo at a minimum 6 months out, we’re going to go out on a limb and say Pritchard could be a tad off. But hey, rumors make the world go ’round…
