Neo Free Runner soon running with Android?

Boy Genius has let loose some info regarding the often talked about (in the geek world, yet unknown to the masses) Free Runner.  Currently, the Open Moko Free Runner rocks an in house OS that in all honesty doesn’t look have bad to the naked eye.  However, I haven’t personally used the device so I can’t say how well navigation is.  Back on topic, apparently the FreeRunner is set to be rocking Android in the near future.  Also, the new “Android version” is going to get a re-worked unit different from current specs.  For all of those out there a little fuzzy on the specs or for those of you who have never heard of it, the current specs are:

  • Dimensions: 120.7 × 62 × 18.5 (mm)
  • Power: 1200 mAh battery
  • Connectivity: GSM, Bluetooth 2.0, GPRS, AGP,S WiFi, USB 1.1 slave and host, 2.5-mm audio jack
  • Operating system: Android, OpenMoko, Qtopia, Debia
  • Media: microSD, SDHC capable, Wolfson WM8753 Codec
  • Input: touchscreen, buttons
  • CPU: Samsung 2442 SoC @ 400 MHz
  • Memory: 128 MB SDRAM and 256 MB NAND flash. Flash expandable upto 16 GB
  • Display: 2.8 in. VGA (480 × 640) TFT, 282 pixels/in.

One thing of interest (at least to me) is the mention of Android in the “current OS” list.  Why the big news of Android coming to the FreeRunner if it is already there?  I’m probably missing something, but just highlighting it none the less.  A few pictures courtesy of BG await in the gallery, (rumor fuzz included).
