PSP2 dropping UMD drive…becoming a slider?

“I hear Sony FINALLY has the PSP 2.  And thank goodness, they’ve removed the stupid battery-sucking UMD disc drive. I’m excited!”

The very words uttered by David Perry, a developer for the gaming company Acclaim, were posted on his Twitter and Facebook accounts today.  So has Sony given up on the useless UMD format?  Hopefully!  However this is all purely speculation for now as it is one little voice.  Also up on the rumor soap box is the PSP 2 becoming a slider type device while retaining the same internals as current PSP’s.  *Couldn’t they update the guts just a tad…it’s only been several years without any real updates*.  Regardless.  If the PSP 2 looks anything like the render above…Wow is all I can muster up right now.  However with consistent rumors popping up from IGN and VG247 just to name a couple.  The news is certainly a shot of excitement for PSP users as Sony until recently hasn’t really done much at all with the platform.  However, according to Perry, we wont have to wait too long as the PSP 2 could be let loose as soon as this year!  Keep your fingers crossed.
