Almighty Apple degrades the App Store just a little more…

Sadly, the latest in App Store purges centers around emoji icons.  While the Japanese iPhones are the only iPhones to have emoji icons (the 10 million little smiley faces) from the factory, many apps have popped up either solely to enable them, or as an added feature bundled with some other app.  Today marks the end to un-Japanese emoji as Apple has sent letters to all developers with emoji enabling apps stating that their apps are either being pulled (if it’s a stand alone emoji app) or that an update must be submitted immediately (it emoji is an added feature in an app).  All apps submitted in the future with any hint of emoji will be quickly rejected.  Why is Apple being such jerks?  Well, for one they’re Apple.  Second, Gizmodo hypothisezes that people could get confused with emoji as only people with Japanese iPhones or an emoji app can even see them.  Whatever the case may be behind Apple’s motivations, it’s definitely a shame that Apple routinely fails to improve their app store and open up a little.  Eventually this sort of business practice could alllow other manufacturers app stores to catch up and ultimately surpass Apple’s.  What do you think.  Is a big stink being raised about nothing?  Or is Apple being a big jerk?
