The app store race is getting another contender in supposedly a months time.  According to Nokia executives, Ovi will be not only an "App Store" but an "entertainment channel" as it will also include audio and video making Ovi a one stop shop for all of your mobile needs.  So far the cut between Nokia and devs will be the popular 30/70 split respectively.  However, they didn't rule out other percentages as everything isn't quite set in stone yet.  So far Ovi has had "thousands of applica...

    Posted April 2nd, 2009 at 7:12 am
The outrage that Google and the Android team would have the nerve to remove software, specifically tethering apps from an "open source" app store has caused angry cries all of the web.  Well there is some good news to report this morning.  It appears Google is reinstating the tethering apps except with one small attached string -- T-Mobile U.S.A. users are locked out from using the app. (more...)...
  • Paper thin, flexible speakers coming to an ad near you.
    by Mike

Since the creation of the typical speaker cone, speaker technology really hasn't evolved in any way or with any drastic changes.  Sure better materials, different manufacturing technologies, and slightly different shapes of speakers have come, but none of those have truly revolutionized the way we listen to and enjoy sound.  However, researhcers at Warwick University are working on a new type of material to be used as a speaker "cone" that is paper thin and flexible... by Mike
    Posted April 1st, 2009 at 6:00 pm
So how is your April fools day going?  Is your PC still running?  More than likely that answer is a resounding "Yes!".  The Conficker worm that has been all the talk the last several months and more so the last couple weeks leading up to the April 1st deadline of when the little worm would step up its "phone home" tactics.  While there has been "increased communication" between Conficker infected computers and some outside source, the internet is still functioning, computers still humming ...
  • Blackberry 9910 sneeking around the web?
    by Mike
    Posted April 1st, 2009 at 5:10 pm
If you know Spanish and have a fetish for Blackberry devices, check out this post on a Venezuelan BlackBerry blog, Zona Blackberry, as they have a metrics report showing a mysterious Blackberry device snooping around and toting OS 5.0.03.  Don't jump the gun and start taking money out of your retirement fund just yet.  Browser metric reports aren't 100% accurate, mistakes happen.  However, a 9900 model has been talked about before so it isn't a "secret" per say... by Mike
    Posted April 1st, 2009 at 1:00 pm
Blackberry users who live on the mobile web I have some good news. CTIA is bringing to us an announcement from the Bolt developers of a nice fat update, especially for Blackberry Storm users. The list of updates: Greatly improved scrolling speed and control A new 3XL (extra large) magnification mode with content 33.3 percent bigger than in 2XL for all of those Crackberry users with less than stellar eye sight. Double tap approach to select links on touchscreen devices like the BlackBerry...
  • Android powered HP netbooks coming to a retailer near you?
    by Mike
    Posted April 1st, 2009 at 12:32 pm
If HP's "study" goes well the answer to the title could be a big fat "Yes".  Apparetly, HP does in fact have various people keeping a watchful eye on Android and its progress.  The goal?  To replace Windows on HP netbooks with Google's "open source" OS.  Wouldn't that be a sweet union...desktop Android and "mobile" Android.  It would be much like Microsoft's and Apple's desktop and mobile unions.  Again this is all speculation as nothing is set in stone or even been announced yet.  Do...

In the ever increasing adoption of technology, people naturally are drawn towards customizing that technology much like they did in the good 'ol days with their dolls and GI Joes (probably a poor analogy but that's all I've got).  Fast forward to now, and look at your everyday web browser.  Do you have one...or several?  Are you a Mac user or Windows user?  These things can play in to how you alter your computer enviorment to suit your personal tastes.  A new service for Firefox called ...
  • Blackberry App World now live!
    by Mike
    Posted April 1st, 2009 at 6:59 am
After spending a couple ours with Blackberry App world, I can truly say that as soon as I get wind of RIM's Bold replacement I will be switching back.  App World while still greatly trailing Apple's 25,000+ and counting app store has one BIG feature that the iPhone will never have...background processes.  Fire up Pandora and write that email.  Do this or that.  Know what I mean?  Anyway, a few honorable mentions already include Shazam (the great song tagging app available on iPhone and ...
