USB 3.0 capable of more - 25Gbps capable ceiling obtainable!

USB 2.0 while fast in its day is simply no match for the size and quantity of files people are now swapping in the more technology saturated world in which we live in today. USB 3.0 thankfully is their knight in shining armour if you will as it will bring a much greater bandwidth max ushering in true high-speed transfers able to cope with large files such as HD movies and lossless music among other types. At the USB 3.0 Developers Conference that was held May 20 to 21, 2009, in Tokyo, Japan, Jeff Ravencraft, chairman of the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) proposed that USB 3.0 was in fact designed to support much higher speeds than the current “merely adequate” 5Gbps. Just how fast is faster? What about multiple times faster….super hyper speed faster….!

Mr. Ravencraft (as mentioned above) claims the USB 3.0 protocol could actually be taken all the way up to a mind blowing 25Gbps top speed making even large video transfers take mere seconds and at worst a few minutes - most certainly a lot more manageable than the current 30-60 minute times or more these larger files are taking. Further regarding the current 5 Gbps “cap” on USB 3.0, Ravencraft goes on to say that at the time, the cap was imposed as it was deemed sufficient for the next 5 years leaving open the possibility to up the transmission speeds in future years. I don’t know about you but I would sure enjoy the full 25 Gbps speeds “unlocked” and ready to go from the get go. Wouldn’t you? Still, I’ll take the 5 Gbps without complaining as real world speeds will obviously be much lower. Did you all of a sudden feel like putting on some pilot goggles and strapping yourself down to the floor so you don’t get blown away by all of this new found speed?
