**Update: There’s a fix folks. Find it here.
Disappointment for sure. It looks as if a nasty bug in the official BlackBerry 5.0 software renders custom BlackBerry Storm themes ugly and not quite so functional. The image above is from Kyle over at BlackBerry Cool and foreshadows a tidal wave of disappointment for all new BlackBerry Storm users who pick up a model with 5.0 pre-installed as well as those who have already upgraded.
In this particular issue, the phone in question is the BlackBerry 9530, second first gen storm. In portrait mode everything appears hunky dory. That is until you go all horizontal at which point a garish mix up of UI elements crop up on screen. Coupled with scrolling issues and certain UI elements and onscreen buttons being rendered useless, theme enthusiasts may be in for the ever common though much hated waiting game since such issues will most likely have to be addressed with Plazmic (now owned by RIM).
I’ll give Plazmic credit. They do some amazing themes with the BB theme software. But speed and “quickness” aren’t exactly their strong points. If it is a Plazmic issue, let’s hope they get it fixed. If it’s a deeper issue with OS 5.0, well, RIM best be on top of that like yesterday. With the Storm2 launching tomorrow, a whole lot of themers are going to be mighty upset. Stay tuned…

an easy an effective way to fix this problem is to go to your “options” once there scroll down to “themes” having the 5.0 upgrade you should be able to click on the theme that is active (the blue square with lines) once you’ve clicked it go to “theme defaults” then check “layout” and apply..then click yes. wait about 10 seconds so this applies then exit out of options. this pesky problem should be fixed. if not repeat steps above.
unfortunately when you do a soft or hard battery pull it resets and you have to do the steps above again. its a small price to pay until they fix this bug. i love having new themes every now and then so this works for me.
