Oh god. Seasoned jailbreakers and those living by the unlock already know to hold off on updates as they always have the potential to turn a good day bad. But those who are new to the scene may need a helping hand. *extends a hand* Welcome.

Just so everyone knows, iPhone OS 3.1.3 kills jailbreaking and unlocking across the board save for a few exceptions — redsn0w will take care of an iPhone 3G, though unlocking is nil at this point. The Dev-Team says that while Pwnage Tool has been wounded, redsn0w kinda works on the iPhone 3G and first gen iPod Touch. So is it worth losing your jailbreak/unlock for the new .3? Hardly. The new features:

  • Improved battery meter accuracy on iPhone 3GS
  • Fixed problems where 3rd party apps would sometimes fail to launch
  • Fixed bug in which apps may crash when using Japanese Kana keyboard
  • “Security updates” to CoreAudio, ImageIO, Recovery Mode and WebKit among others

Unless you’re really aching for some better security or more accurate battery life meter, 3.1.3 is a definite pass. Keep jailbreaking folks. Fight the good fight.
