Moto DROID 2.1 update coming this week. Oh wait, nevermind. We got a little excited - Love, Moto [Update]

**Update:I’m getting a few reports as well as seeing elsewhere that 2.1 still is coming later this week and the Moto simply jumped the gun posting their little snippet of info a few days early. We shall see..

Ouch, talk about a heart killer. And right before Valentines Day no less. That wondrous Android 2.1 update news that has literally flooded the internet over the last week was all for naught as apparently a Moto forum admin got a little click happy with the mouse button as according to the companies own forum, they released the Android 2.1 DROID update pre-maturely. (read: Android 2.1 for the Motorola DROID is not coming this week). If you try to retrace your steps back to the original link detailing the good news, you’ll see that the pertaining info has been removed. Ya, that sucks.

Meh, I’ve been running custom ROM’s for the last month and a half anyhow and even have any OTA updates blocked specifically so I don’t loose my custom ROMs. But for those who don’t, I feel your pain.

Do you think this could be a response from Moto to go back to the drawing board if need be and toss in the 3D app launcher and Live Wallpapers that had so many people all hot and bothered? Or is it just your typical miscommunications? Here’s to hoping the weekend starts off on a high note for ya…

How so? It didn’t come that week. But plenty of documentation has been released showing that it’s coming “soon”.

I don’t understand the alleged dropping of features like 3D app drawer when the custom ROMs are proof positive that the hardware is capable of running those features - I realize there will come a time when the more capable hardware of N1 will make it such that Moto Droid and N1 need different flavors of Android, but I don’t think we’re there yet. These things are not necessarily dealbreakers but they can instill a bit of buyer’s remorse among Moto Droid owners thinking they were getting a flagship Android product only to feel like second class citizens to N1.
