With as promising as webOS looked early last year, it’s truly disappointing to see something with so much potential languish due to poor managerial choices and outright disgusting hardware. HTC on the other hand is a master at beautifying the ugly. While webOS itself isn’t ugly and in fact quite the head turner, would a company as successful as HTC benefit from picking up Palm — a company, or more importantly mobile OS with plenty of potential with a simple lack of direction?
There’s plenty of arguments for and against of course. A big plus for HTC if they do complete the rumor circle and acquire Palm would be the much tighter integration between software and hardware. Conversely, if HTC takes on a mobile OS of their own, two of their biggest partners instantly become competitors — Microsoft with Windows Phone and Google’s Android. The latter of which is enjoying an healthy bit of popularity as of late with phone after phone touting the Android love.
It’s a tough decision for sure, though one that HTC will have to balance with speed as another mobile player, Huawei is also looking at a potential purchase…or so the rumors say.
What would you do if you were HTC?
