Impress Your Friends and Coffee Cups: The Han Solo Coffee Table
You could be like every other normal, un-interesting home owner and put some bland plank of wood in your living room, boring your guests and coffee cups alike. Or, you could make use of this awesome Han Solo Coffee Table designed and built by England-based design studio R9…
R9 is a new start up founded by James Caine and his brother. Together, the pair spent a full two months crafting the beauty you see above and below. The table starts out as a large chunk of silicon. On top of that, R9 cold casts (aluminum powder and resin mixture poured on top) the silicon so it has a real, metallic top layer once hardened. As far as measurements go. The table measures in at 200cm (7.5′) long x 77cm (2.5′) wide x 37cm (3′) tall and tips the scales at 55kg (121lbs).
Initially, the brothers designed the Han Solo art piece as a free standing model. But after thinking it over, the duo decided to make it into something more functional for everyday use. Regardless of how it lays or stands, it’s a pretty sweet table that would look good in anyone’s living room (or geek lair). Speaking of which, the Han Solo Coffee Table is being made in a limited 20-unit run. Though piece #02 just sold, so that leaves you with 18 chances left. If you’ve got the space, prepare your £1000 now. Just be sure to leave a little extra for shipping charges.
**James let me know that they have a website in progress. In the meantime, if you’d like to contact R9, shoot an email over to “[email protected]”.
