People of Lava Android TV Officially Launches. #android #peopleoflava

The “People of Lava Android TV” was revealed all the way back in April of this year. Since then, fanfare around the TV itself has been rather quiet, mainly because it’s a Scandinavian-only model (sad). Though it is once again climbing into the headlines thanks to a new 55″ model that just launched today.

The hardware is sleek and modern in design and comes with a remote featuring a built-in keyboard. The software is Android 1.5 (cupcake). In order to compete with the likes of Google TV (and soon Sony), apps are once again going to be a deciding factor when purchasing these web-enabled TVs.

On that front, the People of Lava Android TV leaves quite a bit to be desired — at least initially. At launch there are only 20 apps available. Although, the goal is to have over 1,000 by the end of 2010. That’s quite a lofty goal considering we only have a month and a half left before 2011 rolls in.

For now, the €4,257 is pretty prohibitive. But the company hopes to lower the price as interest and sales increases, as well as venture into the U.S. market sometime next year. It’s all pretty impressive for a tiny, 20-person company wouldn’t you say?
