Twitter To Launch Self Branded Photo Sharing Service For Deep Integration In iOS 5?

Over the last week we’ve heard a lot of rumors and speculation claiming that Twitter is going to reveal their own photo sharing service sometime this week. Almost immediately people cried out at how Twitter was further destroying their 3rd party ecosystem. But despite current claims otherwise, Twitter reportedly sat down with several 3rd party Twitter photo sharing service developers as far back as January and told them about their (Twitter’s) plan to move into the same space. The general consensus is that the 3rd party devs will move to other “white-lablel” areas and possibly even receive continuing help from Twitter (with what or how we’re not sure).

Of couse, it’s perfectly ok to assume Twitter is moving into this space just because they can. Hell, they just dropped $40 million on TweetDeck to keep competitors off their back and lock in power users who’ve long complained Twitter’s own offerings are too simplistic and don’t offer enough features. The real treat, however, is something much more important on a broader scale — deep iOS 5 integration.

With Twitter continually growing in sheer user base (and their importance growing as well) having deep integration in a platform with some very social people is a huge plus. While we don’t have any problem jumping back and forth between apps to get what we need posted where we want it, having one-tap posting to Twitter similar to one-tap YouTube uploads on the iPhone would be a god-send. Not to mention, 10 taps to achieve the same thing we can do on Android with one or two does make us a bit jealous.

While the reports are currently unconfirmed, having TechCrunch and DaringFireball adding their own respective creds to the story, we can only assume such a feature is all but confirmed, right? Not quite.

With that said, we’re still optimistic. Because as awesome as deep Twitter integration would be, just think of all the added possibilities and potential within iOS that could be tied to a Twitter account thanks to the newfound integration? Yup, next Monday is going to be a very exciting, very busy day for us.

Check back June 6th for the latest WWDC info focusing on OS X Lion and iOS 5.
