Microsoft Confirms: Xbox Integration Coming To Windows 8.
Navigating Microsoft’s ecosystem whether it be Windows Phone, Windows on the desktop, or gaming with Xbox Live will soon be much more cohesive thanks to a new announcement by the company — Xbox Live integration is coming to Windows 8!
The news was confirmed by Microsoft’s President of Global Marketing, Mike Delman. In an interview with the Seattle Times, Delman confirmed that Windows 8 would see the beginning of Xbox Integration as well as other cloud-based services in an effort to join their three big platforms: Xbox, Windows Phone and Windows. (For the record, Xbox Live integration is already featured in Windows Phone 7.)
Live has been successful on the Windows Phone. Live will be built into the PC. It will be the service where you get your entertainment. We were talking about it — you will not just see consoles and handhelds at this show next year, this show’s going to morph into other devices.
It’s certainly exciting news and not only for gamers. Having the various systems we use for specific scenarios tied together is extremely beneficial. But imagine having the media capabilities built into the entire Xbox Live service now available on your desktop computer/laptop and phone. If Microsoft can really hone in on the fine details and polish up the rough edges, their new ecosystem could become a very compelling one to rival Apple’s planned cloud-based services and environment.
Let the battle begin.
