VZW Tiered Plans Dropping July 7th. Tiered Pricing Detailed.

  • June 20, 2011 2:00 pm

Verizon’s ultimate killing of unlimited data and rollout of tiered data plans is coming July 7th if the latest rumors are to be believed.

We’ve seen several dates thrown out over the last couple of months, though nothing concrete has ever been confirmed or actually rolled out. With that said, recent screencaps showing internal VZW systems detailing shared family data plans are an added piece to the puzzle. Add to that new claims by Droid-Life sources that say July 7th is the day the world ends — for heavy data users that is — as unlimited VZW data plans will cease to exist.

Hop inside for the full rundown…

Data Only

  • 2 GB: $30/month
  • 5 GB: $50/month
  • 10 GB: $80/month

Data + Tethering

  • 4 GB: $50/month
  • 7 GB: $70/month
  • 12 GB: $100/month

Overage costs will come in the form of $10 for each additional 1 GB of data. It’s also worth noting that 3G and 4G/LTE plans will be the same despite previous rumors claiming there would be separate packages.

Sadly the prices and data allotment for each tier are both grossly over-priced for the pittance of data they actually allow you as well as $5 more expensive than competing AT&T data plan prices. In that light, however, we’d wager that there are far more places where Verizon’s network is more resilient than AT&T’s, so that in and of itself is worth $5 extra bucks. Then there’s this little thing called LTE which is leaps and bounds faster than AT&T’s 4G HSPA+ network.

How does the future look for you heavy data using, VZW customers?
