Dell Leaving The Mobile Space? (Again.)

  • October 7, 2011 5:47 pm

Fans of Dell’s WP7 handsets will want to hold on to what they have for the foreseeable future. According to an article by WPCentral citing a “higher up at Dell”, Dell will not be releasing any new Mango devices for the rest of 2011 or 2012. The same article mentions Dell’s Android ventures are also being severely scaled back.

The news echoes a similar scenario from several years back when Dell decided to step back from the then popular Windows Mobile operating system. For several years Dell was out of the mobile space altogether. Their more recent early adoption of Windows Phone 7 was a new beginning for the company as even when sales peaked with Windows Mobile, the had never really enjoyed much success. As it stands now we’ll be waiting at least another year for “that” standout device that many (ourselves included) expected the Venue Pro to be. The upside, of course, is that by that time we’ll be focusing on Windows Phone 8.
