[Update: It's Ok Now.] PSA: Warning - Jailbreakme.com Web Based Jailbreak Sold - Do Not Use!

  • October 7, 2011 2:04 pm

Early this morning, MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team Tweeted that the jailbreakme.com website was sold. Jailbreakme.com was created by Comex that contains userland exploits making it extremely easy for those that follow the link to jailbreak their iDevices. Comex recently joined Apple as an intern, so the future of jailbreakme.com was always in the back of my mind. I personally use pwnagetool to keep unlock status, but the tool was extremely simple. It seems ConceitedApps owns the domain and recently had a ‘Thank You, Steve’ tribute at the site. After being asked to take it down by Comex and MuscleNerd, it finally was.

But, here we are, Comex gone, an untrusted entity owning the domain. MuscleNerd stresses to NOT use the site and do not attempt to jailbreak your device using the tool. Stay away for now, and probably moving forward. He also says that they still own jailbreaks.me, which we might see the tool ported to in the future.

So please, stay away from the site. Use redsn0w or the like to jailbreak at the moment. We’ll hopefully see jailbreaks.me up and running soon. We’ll be sure to let you know.

Update

It’s ok everyone. Saurik has gained ownership of Jailbreakme.com meaning the legendary web address can be used by iOS hacker faithful once again.
