[Update] LG Confirms Optimus 2X and G2X Are Dead Ends, Not Receiving Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Owners of LG’s Optimus 2X and G2x smartphones might want to start thinking about eBay’ing their phones. LG has just confirmed that neither handset will be getting Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates — phones that are less than 8 months old. The announcement effectively proclaims both phones as dead-end upgrades for anyone looking at a potential phone upgrade in the next few months. What’s shocking is that the phones themselves are still some of the most powerful Android hardware you can currently get (read: 1GHz+ dual-core processors, 512 MB-1 GB of RAM, 1080p video recording, 4.3″+ displays).

The move is likely because LG already has ICS-specific phones in the pipeline. But let’s be honest, from what we’ve seen from Motorola — releasing the same phone 5 times over with slightly different physical characteristics — we find it pretty easy to believe LG is doing the same thing. Add a button, stretch the screen an extra 0.1″ and give it a fancy new name — profit.

It seems that when LG claims to be “committed” to a particular high-end device they really don’t mean it (or their definition of “committed” is half a year).

Any G2x/Optimus 2X owners feeling burned?

Apparently LG hasn’t quite made up their decision yet — there’s still a possibility ICS could come to the the Optimus 2X and/or G2X.
