Rumor: Leaked HTC Edge To Be First Quad Core Phone.

Currently, if you want the best Android phone money can buy, you want the Galaxy Nexus. It’s a combination of hardware and software perfection — the latest and the greatest on both fronts. Ok, so you can’t actually buy it just yet. Still, the fact of the matter is the Galaxy Nexus currently places the bar for all other Android handsets. But if a new leak by Pocket-Now materializes, the Galaxy Nexus won’t hold the top spot for long.

Meet the HTC Edge. This phone will reportedly be the first mobile phone to pack a quad-core processor underneath it’s 4.7″ 720p display and ~10mm thick body. Other specs are more standard: 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with a 28-millimeter f/2.2 lens, 1 GB of RAM, a slew of wireless/cellular radio support (i.e.: Bluetooth 4.0), and incorporate Beats audio as part of HTC’s recent partnership.

The processor in particular will be “the” selling point (obviously). According to Pocket-Now sources the four cores of the Nvidia AP30 Tegra 3 CPU will hum along at a brisk 1.5 GHz each.

Other unconfirmed features of the HTC Edge include support for HTC’s new music, book, gaming, and HD video services (“HTC Listen”, “HTC Read”, “HTC Play”, and “HTC Watch”), as well as rumors that the Edge could be the first device to ship with HTC Sense 4.0.

LTE support and Android version are unknown at this point. Though given the supposed Q1/Q2 2012 release, we can’t see such a high-end device not shipping with the latest and greatest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Ditto for LTE.

For now all we’ve got is the image above. Drool away…
