Cheaper Galaxy S III “Mini” To Cut Expensive Parts, Hit The Market For $200-$300 Unlocked.

The Galaxy S III is a lot of things. It’s a flagship, high-end, power-packing device. What it isn’t, however, is cheap. That’s where a slightly stripped down and shrink rayed Galaxy S III “mini” could come in handy.

A new rumor makes the claim that Samsung is working on just that – a Galaxy S III that is physically smaller in size as well as swapping out higher-end components with more mid-range fodder to hit a new target price of ~$200-$300 off-contract. In order to chop nearly $300 off the Galaxy S III’s full, unsubsidized price, the quad-core processor found on the international version will reportedly be swapped out for a dual-core offering while the rear-facing camera will drop in megapixel count from 8 to 5. The display will also be cut down, though to what size and resolution is anyone’s best guess at this point. Finally, storage is up in the air too, though, such things can be introduced lower and be “ok” provided an expandable SD card slot is provided. Keeping everything nice and smooth despite power cuts will be helped out by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and “Project Butter”.

Samsung is keeping tight lipped about any potential “mini” Galaxy S III (and any future devices for that matter) though did say new devices would be “announced soon” (hello Note II).

Even if it were a decent amount weaker in the specs department, would an unlocked $200-$300 Galaxy S III mini wet your whistle?
