T-Mobile Announces ISIS Launch In Austin, Texas And Salt Lake City. New NFC SIM Cards Now Available

Mobile wallets are the new hot thing in mobile tech right now. While Google’s Wallet service has been around for a solid year now, few companies have actually moved to adopt it in mass numbers. But the carrier-backed “ISIS” service will hopefully fare better.

Today, T-Mobile announced the launch of ISIS support on several of their smartphones as well as new NFC-capable SIM cards available in-store at no cost, specifically for Austin, Texas and Salt Lake City.

As with other wallet services, ISIS handles everything and automatically pulls from your configured credit card(s). Though, T-Mobile hopes retailers will get on board and expand on ISIS tech by including special offers and encouraging other service perks as well.

For now, the supported T-Mobile phones include:

  • Samsung Galaxy S III
  • Galaxy S Relay 4G
  • Samsung Galaxy S II

T-Mobile says that by the end of 2012, the HTC Amaze 4G and Samsung Galaxy Note II will join in on the ISIS fueled party with plenty more mobile devices joining the ranks in 2013.

We have to ask: Is the general public (or even you techies reading this) really that excited about ISIS in particular or more-so mobile wallet functionality beginning to take hold?
