Windows 8 And Xbox Live = Beautiful Friendship!

With all the hubbub surrounding the Windows 8 keynote today there really wasn’t much mention of Microsoft’s other marvel Xbox Live. With the integration the latest Xbox Dashboard is supposed to have, it is fitting to offer that integration between computer and console.

This afternoon, Major Nelson confirmed that Microsoft will be bringing Xbox Live to the PC with Xbox LIVE on Windows!

We are confirming that we will be bringing Xbox LIVE to the PC with Xbox LIVE on Windows. We are very excited about Xbox LIVE coming to Windows 8. Xbox LIVE brings your games, music, movies, and TV shows to your favorite Microsoft and Windows devices. Bringing Xbox LIVE to Windows 8 is part of our vision to bring you all the entertainment you want, shared with the people you care about, made easy. At BUILD we are showing that it is easy for developers to create games for Windows 8 that take advantage of the power of Xbox LIVE. We have much more detail to share about the capabilities of Xbox LIVE on Windows and look forward to the opportunity to do so in the near future.

Anyone excited for this integration? You stoked to be able to hang with your Live friends while trolling the interwebs? Us Mac OSX users aren’t really sure what to think. I mean we feel using Live while on the Xbox only makes sense. We don’t need two devices to do one thing, which is why we own Macs!

Pre-Holiday Season To See MacBook Pro Refresh?

Sources close to AppleInsider are saying that Apple is planning on release an update to it’s Pro laptop line in the coming weeks - following the close of Apple’s Back-To-School Promotion which ends on September 20th. With the Air line receiving their update this past July, and the Pro series not seeing anything since this past February, it is actually possible Apple would like to bridge the gap between the last update and the release of Intel’s next-generation Core i-Series mobile platform.

According to people with proven insight into Apple’s future product plans, the late-2011 MacBook Pro refresh will deliver marginal speed bumps to the notebooks’ Core i-Series of Sandy Bridge processors but will otherwise introduce no material changes over the existing models.

AppleInsider says the latest 2.4GHz, 2.5GHz and 2.7GHz quad-core Core i7 processors could replace the current 2.0GHz, 2.2GHz and 2.3GHz versions currently powering Apples professional series notebooks. The 13-inch entry level MacBook Pro could see a bump with the listed 2.5GHz to 2.6GHz processors now available.

No one really knows what Apple has planned for this Holiday season. With no scheduled annual September Music Event, nothing concrete regarding the iPhone 5 - there is no telling what will happen. I don’t feel Apple will only give the current line a 7 month life, but that is just my humble opinion. We’ll all have to wait and see. You guys think it makes sense to release a refresh now in light of the wait until Intel’s second quarter of 2012 next-gen release?

Nice Knockoff - China At It Again!

China has been cloning the Cupertino giant a lot lately. Both with iPhone clones as well as actual Apple Retail locations. Here we are posting another post about someone in China creating an Apple knock-off. This time it is an actual website. If you check here, you’ll see the China based online game company - Giant Network - decided to use the Apple website as a template to promote it’s online game ‘Zhengtu 2.”

As you scroll through the website, you’ll see the likeness of all of Apple’s products all over the website. Take note of the Apple logo turned Pear, and the icon for Lion being a cute little bunny rabbit. Since it is based off of Apple’s design, of course it is sexy, but the random slight Photoshooping is quite neat. Giant Network does not intend to sell any of the products, it is strictly for promotion of their latest game.

Shi YuZhu - founder of Giant Network - was at one time a very successful entrepreneur who was in the Top-10 on the Forbes rich list. But after making some wonky business ventures, he lost a cool 2.5 billion Yuan (read: $400 million real dollars) in one night. Writer for Mic-Gadget compares Shi to the likes of Steve Jobs. Saying that in the same way Jobs was fired years ago from the Company he co-founded and came back to give Apple the boost it needed to own the tech world, Shi never gave up and is coming back with the launch of their new game. I consider that a huge jump and in no way a salute to Steve Jobs and Apple.

Either way, jump on in for a gallery of a collection of somewhat impressive screen caps…

Apple Keeps Chastity Belt Like Security On Pre-Release Hardware

We all know how secretive Apple can get about everything that is Apple. During the interview process I have had (on multiple occasions) I have heard first hand just the security measures that go on in their campus headquarters in Cupertino. We have seen over the past 4 years what goes into their hardware’s secret identity before release date. After the iPhone 4 ‘lost prototype’ debacle last year, Apple took matters into their own hands with the mobsters sent to locate the “iPhone 5″ lost at yet another bar.

With well over a year since the release of the very first iPad, those that were given the hardware before release are finally aloud to speak to what it’s like. And that is just what a certain developer of a very successful iPad app did a couple days ago. The team over at Business Insider release their conversation with with the developer and it actually sounds pretty interesting the lengths Apple will go to prevent leaks.

Adobe Finally Flashes Its Goods At Your iOS Devices!

Remember a time when phones didn’t have the ability to view Flash content? I sure as hell don’t…Oh wait…I have an iPhone…d’oh! Yeah, 2011 is almost coming to a close and the revolutionary device in my pocket has a darn of a time playing Flash videos. Last year we were graced with SkyFire which rocked some Flash content on the fly. While, at least for me, rarely working I finally did a way with the app and went on “enjoying” the mobile web minus Adobe’s Flash.

Hopefully this is a thing of the past! Adobe is finally bringing decent Flash support to iOS devices. Like SkyFire, Adobe’s latest release of Flash Media Server will feature ‘on the fly’ transcoding to convert flash content to your everyday normal HTTP stream. Adobe’s Flash Media Interactive Server 4.5 is available now to publishers at a cool $4,500 while the Streaming Server is coming in at $995.

Xbox Live Fall Dashboard Update Brings Awesomeness To Your TV

Way back in 2008 we had a nice little update to our Xbox 360 Dashboard that actually made you feel lik you were playing on a Next Gen console. Here we are 3 years later and it’s about time we feel like the rest of the Windows world. With the Windows Phone 7 out and in some pockets everywhere, and Windows 8 on the verge, Microsoft wants their entire lineup to feel like a tiled social dream. They bring this idea to their highly successful gaming platform in hopes to make your gaming easy and less clumpy. Hopefully most of you have a 360 and know what it is like to try and find content on the thing. Sometimes items are hard to find, and for the n00b out there, locating a video or game content can get difficult.

Microsoft is here to save the day, once again. Later this year (“Fall”) our Xboxes will be getting a much needed update. With a new design, enhanced performance and some pretty nifty social integration, Microsoft hopes we will have a one-stop shop for all of our media needs. Will Microsoft be able to bring television and movies into the mix to actually provide us with 1 solution for everything we might need? Hop on in to find out!
