Sony Announces Vodafone Partnership For European PS Vita 3G.

  • November 21, 2011 12:43 pm

U.S. PS Vita owners have but one choice — AT&T. It appears European owners will have fate/option as well (at least for now) as Sony has officially spilled the beans on their European carrier partners for the European bound PS Vita. Vodafone will be the “preferred partner” for the near-term which seems to point to a potential second, third, or more additions in carrier support later on down the road.

The list of European launch countries under Vodafone’s reach include: UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand and The Netherlands (SFR in France).

Pricing for the PS Vita 3G will be €299.99 (£261), with the WiFi-only version going for €50 less at €249.99 (£217). Any potential monthly/one-time fee for 3G service hasn’t been divulged. Also unknown — whether or not the initial batch of 3G PS Vitas are tied to Vodafone permanently or will have the option to be unlocked and roam to another carrier at some point in the future.

For fans of Sony’s mobile gaming platform who want the ultimate mobility by way of 3G service, how is the PS Vita shaping up for you?

Is This The Grand Theft Auto V Map? (Release Coming June 2012?)

  • November 17, 2011 6:29 am

Battlefield 3 was fun and all — ditto for Modern Warfare 3 — but the gaming news that really gets my inner geek excited is anything and everything concerning the upcoming Grand Theft Auto V. I’m a “live without borders” type of guy, so the free-roaming nature and ability to literally do whatever I want has always drawn me towards the GTA series. Rockstar games hasn’t revealed anything more than a short teaser/trailer video showing the world that there is in fact a new GTA coming, but crucial details such as what the full map looks like as well as when we can go on crazy drug dealer missions dressed as hookers have yet to be revealed — until (maybe) now.

Lazy Gamer has posted a couple of screenshots which they claim depict the full map for GTA V. Being based in the same city of Los Santos, we notice the alleged GTA 5 map features a lot of countryside. That was one of the best features of San Andreas in my book — urban sprawl + mountains to go off-roading with a scooter.

Even better, Walmart.com just so happens to have GTA 5 up on their site available for pre-order with a blurb that says (Walmart.com search - “GTA 5″):

“item should ship on 6/1/2012″

The date could very likely be nothing more than a placeholder date, though we’d assume retailers are beginning to get at the very least, a rough estimate of when to expect the title in stores.

Who’s saving their pennies for the next GTA?

Minecraft Makes Its Way To Mobile (Again). iPhone App Released.

  • November 16, 2011 3:47 pm

Want all the Minecraft action on the go? Keep looking, then. The newly released (New Zealand today, U.S. tomorrow) Minecraft iOS game is but a small piece of the desktop juggernaut. Some of the things you miss out on using the mobile app include zombie creeper guys, lack of any health bar, no vast wondering/survival mode, and you’re limited to 36 blocks.

Despite all the negatives, it shows that Minecraft can make the move to mobile — the space many would say is the next frontier of gaming, especially since iOS blew the doors open on “casual gameplay”.

Minecraft for iOS is available now in the New Zealand App Store for $9.99 NZ. By the time the Minecraft for iOS makes its way across the pond to U.S. residents tomorrow, expect the price to get rounded down to $6.99 USD.

Minecraft for iOS joins a previously released Android app and will soon be joined by an official Windows/Mac app on November 18th.

Diehard Minecraft fanatics: Are the various missing aspects and limitations of the mobile so great that it’s not worth playing on the go?

Sony To Charge PS Vita Owners To Download Already Owned UMD Media.

  • November 11, 2011 7:25 am

Sony isn’t exactly one of our favorite companies for a number of reasons spanning multiple decades. But every time we try to give Sony the benefit of the doubt they go and do something like this — Sony has announced that PS Vita owners looking to make the move from the PSP/UMD environment to the Vita’s all-digital one can download already purchased UMD games and media at a discounted rate by way of the “UMD Passport” app. The app will scan all of your games for legitimacy and then credit your account accordingly. Pricing for the newly discounted media will be between 100 and 2,400 yen (~$6.50-$13). U.S. pricing hasn’t been announced yet.

We’ll quickly admit that something is better than nothing. But charging to re-download something you’re already paid for? It just doesn’t seem very pro-consumer. On that note, Sony isn’t the only company who’s taken this route in the past and certainly won’t be the last. Then again we thought we were moving away from these ridiculous policies towards a more common sense driven model. Perhaps we were wrong.

Say what you will about critics of Sony’s new plan being “whiners” or suffering from too much “entitlement”. All this is is Sony doing it wrong, plain and simple.

You’re Not A Real MW3 Fan Until You Buy This Themed Jeep Wrangler.

For just $36,495 (2-door) or $40,070 (4-door) the super awesome Modern Warfare 3 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon can be yours. Besides the boat load of goodies that include a winch-ready front bumper/rear bumpers, rock rails, taillamp guards and fancy fuel-filler door. Full-on MW3 geeks can go one step further and have the dealer toss in a Warn winch, 2-inch lift kit and five-spoke wheels to boot. And of course, being a MW3 special edition ride entitles the owner to a bevy of blacked out vehicle components plastered with MW3 logos all over the place.

MW3 junkies and Jeep Wrangler aficionados can begin ordering the 2-door and 4-door special edition Wranglers next month.

Should I Have Used A Knife? MW3 Live Action Video Is Amazing!

  • November 7, 2011 10:12 am

With only 1 more day until the release of Infinity Ward’s new Call of Duty game, they’ve decided to try something new as far as promotional material. Now, I just saw this commercial yesterday during a Football game (they actually purchased a spot during the ‘Game of the Day’) so it could of been playing for a while now, but it is seriously amazing. A short couple minute video featuring an All-Star cast rocking the battlefield.

Avatar’s Sam Worthington, Superbad’s Jonah Hill, and the NBA’s Dwight Howard are n00b tubing their way into our hearts. The Vet, the n00b and eventually the new n00b take to the streets armed heavily, attempting to thwart another terrorist attack - across the globe. Some of the one liners that Jonah Hill says will make you laugh your butt off. Also, that guy is looking ultra fit and healthy!

Anyways, hop past the break to catch a great commercial for the up and coming MW3 game to be release 11.8.11…

[Update] PSA: EA Doesn’t Take Care Of Battlefield 3 Users

  • October 25, 2011 11:08 pm

If you happened to have popped your Battlefield 3 (Xbox 360 here at GS Headquarters) you have probably noticed you were only able to play for a couple minutes. I was able to throw the game in around 5:20pm here on the West, and it took an hour of EA servers failing. Then finally at 6:19pm I loaded my first game. And here we are, an hour and a half later and it has failed again. The picture above is what I constantly see, unless the game freezes up trying to phone EA’s servers. Exiting to the Dashboard is the only cure, at least for me.

How about you guys? You having any problems? From what I can see on my friends list, no one is making past “Menus.”

Update

It seems that everything is up and back to normal. I seem to be having some glitches here and there, but it is definitely 100% better - than not playing. It also could be just that the East Coasters went to bed. lol

Battlefield 3 Pre-orders Rocket Towards Record Numbers — 2 Million+.

  • October 25, 2011 10:37 am

Battlefield 3 just went on sale today and it’s already set to break sales records. But even before it went on sale early this morning Battlefield 3 was already on its way to posting big numbers. According to pre-order figures by VGChartz, Battlefield 3 had over 2 million pre-orders as of October 22nd across Xbox, PS3, and PC.

We haven’t had a chance to play the game ourselves (yet), but you’ll certainly know when we do — GS will go dark for several days (just kidding…maybe). Any BF3 owners care to share their experience thus far?

Rockstar Games Reveals GTA 5 Teaser. Trailer Coming Nov. 2.

While we spend an unhealthy amount of time online, there are some breaks here and there for gaming. Your more popular games such as Call of Duty, Minecraft, etc. snatch up a large amount of the limelight. But our favorite game (by far) and one that we can literally play for days on end, repeatedly, is Grand Theft Auto. We’re not too sure if it’s the endless, free roaming, do whatever you want nature of the game that keeps sucking us in. But whatever it is, we love it. And now the next one is confirmed.

A quick trip to Rockstargames.com will show display the image above. We’ll get our first glimpse at GTA V in a little over a week. Excited?
