Android is all about customization and tweaking the hell out of it. While a large majority of those jumping on the Android bandwagon aren't exactly the largest book of technical knowledge, it's good to know that it's not stopping development of custom ROM's and all the enjoyable bits and pieces that make Android the highly customizable. The last week has seen Android 2.1 (Flan) as the current "must have" for Droid users. I myself flashed the latest 2.1 ROM available and was thoroughly imp...
  • Nexus One already rooted? (Think they’ll announce that on the 5th?)
    by Mike
    Posted December 30th, 2009 at 5:51 pm
You know, there's something funny about how the Nexus One isn't even official by any one company and yet somehow it's already been rooted. Well, we know Google employees got some early hands on time with gifts from the company they work for. So it was only a matter of time before one of those employees either rooted the device themselves or enlisted in the help of a code talking friend. Either way, score one for the geeks! Remember, rooting your device normally isn't for the faint of heart...
  • Revamped Android 2.1 (Flan) gallery ported to 2.0. Easy .apk install now possible.
    by Mike
    Posted December 30th, 2009 at 10:22 am
Ok, how about some more Android news? Unless you live in some cave (that doesn't have WiFi or cellular access) then you probably have seen at least 54 times the updated UI of Android 2.1 in stock form. Among the many subtle and not so subtle changes, the revamped gallery is one of the most striking. It finally brings more sophisticated pizazz to a well deserving platform in need of some more eye candy. With that said, it's been available to port over to 2.0 for a little while now, only it in...

    by Mike
    Posted December 23rd, 2009 at 6:30 am
Android lovers and Cliq users rejoice -- the Motorola Cliq has officially been rooted. If you're looking for custom goodies such as honest to goodness themes (instead of home replacements) and a few other hacked items you're good to go. However, if you're real intentions are to install some tweaked ROM's (hello HTC Sense on your Moto Cliq) hold off for a bit longer. According to those responsible for the root -- TheDudesAndroid of ModMyMoto -- it isn't yet ready to install "" files....
  • Charge your iPhone like it’s 1984 with the NES Gun iPhone dock
    by Mike
    Posted December 23rd, 2009 at 5:58 am
Back in 1984, cellphones were at their most primitive stages. They weren't cool looking, didn't have fancy shmancy processors like Snapdragon, and most of all, wouldn't even fit in a small to medium sized bag. In the current year of 2009, cellphones/smartphones are now taking over more aspects of our lives as they become miniature computers. Sometimes though it's fun to recapture those "glory days" back when technology was ugly and unsightly. The current high fashion gadget as most would...

While the tweeting Kegerator is a clever, geeky way to interact with a chilled brew, other even more interactive possibilities exist for Twitter. Moving away from actual consumption, how about controlling something via Twitter? I bring you the "Tweet Tree". This clever combination of old and new employs Twitter as the means to let ordinary citizens such as you and I to control a Christmas tree's lights from anywhere in the world. Built upon a relatively cheap $35 web platform, making yo...

Ever want to carry a library of ROM's in a convenient, stylish, and portable form factor that you can take with you from computer-to-computer? The SNES controller above had the guts removed and replaced with the contents of a flash drive as well as a USB hub. The results is a controller that houses all the ROM's you could ever want combined with a single cable allowing you to hook up and play said ROM's on any c...
  • New “Poser” theme from Elecite brings new approach to customizing your theme
    by Mike
    Posted December 18th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
The days of being able to simply change your wallpaper and calling that the end of your customizing rope are over. A new BlackBerry theme by Elecite takes a rather unique and exciting departure from the typical world of BlackBerry themes. Instead of merely having the ability to change your background and maybe move the icons a bit, Poser gives you a new, untold amount of options. The whole concept of the theme revolves around customizing an avatar and yes, wallpaper too. The number of ava...
  • The GameBoy Calculator: Fooling teachers of all subjects since 2009.
    by Mike
    Posted December 18th, 2009 at 1:14 pm
Math is far and wide my least favored subject. But we've gone over that before many, many times. So instead of complaining about my number crunching hatred, I'll share with you one way to ignore it altogether, fooling your teachers and pleasing your soul. The GameBoy Calculator is one of those inventions we all wished for as school children. School is rarely "fun" in the purest sense of the word. Making our days go quicker by filling them with some super cool retro gaming would certainl...
  • Man puts rocket launchers on motorcycle. I become instantly jealous longing for the day I can nuke stupid motorists…

You know what I thought to myself when I was in the Honda shop last week and saw a beautiful flat black ‘06 CBR on a sweet sale? "The only thing that will make this better is rocket launchers..." Well wouldn't you know it someone has already come along and done such a thing. YouTube user jairust attached Estes rockets to the side of his '06 Honda CBR and wired them up to be controlled with the touch of button. Pretty sweet if you ask me. Perhaps if I actually had a motorcycle of my ...
  • “The other fish in the sea”: Android 2.1 ROM ported to G1
    by Mike
    Posted December 15th, 2009 at 10:12 pm
And naysayers were claiming the G1's days were numbered. Heck, I won't argue it's chin is getting pretty damn old. But that doesn't stop the vivid developer community for making the best of what the G1 has hardware wise. "Teh Dust" from xda-forums has no doubt been spending the last collection of hours locked away in some dark corner with a computer typing out sweet nothings into it's ear and pushing all the right buttons to align Android 2.1 (Flan) in a way that G1 users can surely appreciat...

BlackBerry users, especially those with an eye for customization and design have probably went through at least a couple of themes on the cherished Canadian born phones. One of the best premium theme designing sites located at have continually pushed the envelope of the BlackBerry theme world. Back when animations were just beginning to pick up steam and still helluva hard to incorporate into themes, Elecite was at the forefront weeding their way through. It's hard work no doubt. ...
