  • Millennium Falcon memorabilia taking over the bedroom. Sleep quarters first to go, Xbox closely follows…or Xbox…

The Millennium Falcon Bed may have been the talk of the town yesterday, but even a mere 24 hours into the past can now be considered old, washed up news. You needn't worry however as there is plenty to talk about today. The bed mentioned above is a novel idea however, not everyone wants to or likes to spend too much time sleeping. You know what they say -- plenty of time to sleep when you're dead...right? Anyway, instead of a modded bed, how about another modded Xbox? Why December is becomi...
  • Modern Philco PC makes big bubbly tech cool again.

In many different hobbies and areas of society, retro is all the rage. Clothing is one such market in which old styles are constantly reborn and revamped, presented as new once again. However, in regards to technology, old tech isn't exactly "cool" again. I don't know about you but when I see an old room-sized computer in old books, I don't think "Gee, I wish I could have one of those in my room". Heck, I wouldn't even want to have a modern computer look like one. They're big, boxy, and ugl...
  • Guitar Hero Garage Door Edition.

Want to see a real modern genius in action? Guitar Hero may be on the back side of the popularity mountain, but one thing is for sure -- Ric Turner, former Disney Imagineer, is a genius. The reason for his ingeniousness is for his creation, "Christmas Light Hero". Obviously based off of Guitar Hero, Ric recorded a perfect run of Eric Johnson's "Cliffs of Dover" for the base video material. The 21,268 lights and LEDs display the recorded video on the garage door while the audio is actual gam...
  • SNES cartridge reborn as external hard drive.

Have a gamer and tech geek in your life? Have I got the perfect albeit expensive stocking stuffer for you. The Super Mario World SNES Hard Drive is a labor of love that comes in 320GB, 500GB, and 600GB flavors. I see a lot of custom hard drives pass by me everyday with a majority of them being pretty cool. But for some reason this particular drive really has me wanting it. The size is understandably a tad large for a 2.5" external hard drive because of the larger size of SNES cartridges, bu...
  • Droid gets the root treatment!

It's been a busy two days with the site and all. So much to my surprise when I was taking a relaxing stroll through a couple Droid forums did I find the answer to my dreams (as of November 6th) -- the Droid has finally been rooted. You know what this means folks: multi-touch is this close. No to mention, plenty of tweaking, endless hours exploring new ROM's (when they become available) and overall getting a sense of newness will be returning to your device. Who doesn't love a gadget reborn? ...
  • ZooZen Xbox 360 case turns your sleek, white gaming machine into a sleek, black brick.
    by Mike

Seeing the word "brick" in the title should frighten you. While often used to depict something unsightly or aesthetically unappetizing, the ZooZen Xbox 360 case is actually pretty darn nice to look at. What exactly is the ZooZen 360 case? Well -- it's a case that snaps all around your Xbox 360. It's shiny, black, and considerably increases your 360's footprint. But it isn't all just about looks. ZooZen went ahead and stuffed a few extra cooling fins inside for good measure. Now that Micro...
  • OS Xbox Pro the coolest Xbox mod. Period. Mac Pro stuffed inside…

Ok, did I miss some announcement on some bizarre national mod week? I mean the OS XBox Pro (pictured above) is now one of many gadget mods we've covered over the last couple of days. All things considered, it could be the millionth custom mod and I would still be just as captivated and geeked out. Some of you may be unimpressed as it appears to be a minor Xbox mod with perhaps some tweaked internal hardware. It's sitting their in it's old age all innocent looking. Oh dear you c...
  • The Pharoh’s computer of choice: NecroMac [Custom Power Mac G3 mod]
    by Mike
    Posted November 24th, 2009 at 4:11 pm
You know, I love seeing technology modded. Things like custom Xbox's, tricked out PC cases, and mashups of the weirdest gadgets really get me going. Seeing as how I'm almost positive that you're a nerd too, one who also likes custom gadget stuff, allow to share with you NecroMac. The heavily modified Power Mac G3 you see above has hieroglyphs inscribed all over it's plastic canvas giving it that old Egyptian flare that is really impressive. Achieving this blend of old and new was accomplishe...
  • The Sega Genesis iPhone Dock

If you're looking at the image above wondering if it's plausible....or even fully working, I can honestly say yes, yes it is. The photo above shows the end result of an old Sega Genesis tear down by Wired's Charlie Sorrel. According to Charlie, their was plenty of room to jam some small speakers inside and make this Japanese Genesis belt out tunes in line with some of the greater iPod docks. But in the end he choose to keep things nice and simple. Hey, I'm simply amazed in wonderment at the ...

Yeeeeooop. It's a slow news day. How about some light hearted reading. A picture is worth a thousand words, so I'll just let it do the talking. Feeling crafty? Gizmodo...
  • Gmail/Google Talk now showing which contacts using Android devices.

Users of Gmail who like to take weekly strolls through the Gmail labs area of the the gCloud will notice a new feature has popped up dubbed "Green Robot". The word "Green" and "Robot" coming from anything Google could only mean one thing: Android. Activating this feature will simply make your Gmail contact chat dots who use Android devices display as color coded Android icons instead of the typical colored dot. By no means is it a productivity booster or performance enhancing trick. It's...
  • PSP-3000 mod turns handheld gaming device into UFO.

When a company designs and develops a piece of gadget hardware, they have to consider the greater good or majority consensus on what defines a "good" device. Because of that, hardware often ends up being rather bland and boring, lacking any real definition or character. That's where we gadget gurus come in. We take these half baked gadgets and mod them into our own visions. Even though they aren't everyone's cup of tea, the wild and creative forms these custom gadgets take is truly spectacul...
