If any of you have a home full of AV equipment you’ll know that pain it is to have to constantly switch between a million different remotes.  You’ll also hate it when you can find one of those million remotes.  Universal remotes are nothing new as they have been around for many years.  In recent years however, they have become increasingly complex, almost like miniature computers.  Logitechs Harmony 1100 touchscreen remote is the sequel to last years 1000.  The 1100 features a black anodized aluminum casing and a 3.5″ touchscreen, this year with user customizable controls!  Another new for this year is RF-based support on top of the Infrared support.  The Harmony 1100 will sync through either Mac or PC and auto-configured to control up to 15 devices out of more than 175,000!  If this is your answer to a less stressful home entertainment system, check back with Logitech come Feburary and get ready to hand over $500.

It what is now a daily occurrence, another company is announcing workforce cuts.  Logitech, while supposedly set to do well this week at CES, is not immune from the current economic hardships.  According to CEO Gerald P. Quindlin: “During the December quarter, the retail environment deteriorated significantly, and moreover, we expect the economic environment to worsen in the coming months and we are therefore taking significant actions to align our cost structure with what is likely to be an extended downturn.”  How long will it take for the cost cutting measures to turn into black ink on the companies financial reports?  Try 2010.  This is going to be a great year.

Logitech MX Revolution Review

img_5718In my quest for the perfect wireless mouse I have spent many hours at Best Buy, Circuit City, Radio Shack, etc.  You  name the electronics store and I’ve been there.  At first, I wanted to get a bluetooth mouse as to free up a USB port on my Mac Book Pro because we all know the MBP is just loaded with them /sarcasm.  Back on topic.  After testing out many models, and reading many reviews I decided against a bluetooth mouse for a few couple reasons.  One, they aren’t as smooth. I would be moving the mouse across the screen only to have it jump randomly for a second or two.  It would go on these random outbursts every 10 to 15 minutes.  Als0, for some reason the bluetooth mice kept disconnecting, if only for a split second, still it was a pain.  After eliminating bluetooth mice, my selection to choose from became substantially longer.  I have had my eye on the MX Revolution for over a year now but have held off largely due to the $100+ asking price.  It wasn’t until a few days after Christmas where I discovered it on sale in Best Buy at $50, plus a $30 gift card made the mouse only $20 in hard cash.  A sweet deal indeed.   Read More… »
