  • Quick impressions of Android 2.0.1…
    by Mike
    Posted December 9th, 2009 at 12:50 am
First and foremost, I'll apologize to those out there sick of hearing about Android news tonight. What can I say, it's been a busy night for the little green giant. Anyway, I went ahead and downloaded the Android 2.0.1 firmware and followed the instructions. After about 3 minutes I had a new Android version number and a much bigger smile. My Droid is like new. Ok, am I being melodramatic and overhyping the update? I don't think so. The speed navigating between the homescreens is fin...
  • DROID and HTC Droid Eris to receive Android 2.1 update January 11th or January 22nd?
    by Mike
    Posted December 7th, 2009 at 9:46 am
Get your salt shakers folks. You'll need them yet again as this is for now a "what if" type of question. It's highly suspected that the Android 2.0.1 update will drop on December 11th just a few days from now. Verizon themselves mentioned that the Droid would receive such an update "before the holidays". Now, also put into your internal RAM that Verizon has stated that the HTC Droid Eris will receive an upgrade to at least Android 2.0 in Q1 of 2010. Finally, back on November 9th we had a st...
  • Symbians “new” look really that new?
    by Mike
    Posted December 3rd, 2009 at 1:29 pm
Now several hours old, the images of Symbians new, much improved face has made their rounds. I'll say straight up that it looks hot. But look at the battery and signal meters as well as the general look of the icons and menu bar -- they look a lot like the old Symbian. Am I the only one who isn't impressed as much as they hoped to be? Granted, the new widgets and edge-to-edge mystery device it's being showcased on all depict stunning design. Still, the aforementioned UI elements stand out a...
  • HTC Hero Euro-spec and Android 2.1 (Eclair) get some video action.
    by Mike
    Posted December 2nd, 2009 at 9:48 pm
Android 2.1 is one of the most anticipated Android updates yet. For HTC Hero users even more so as they're currently stuck at the now old as dirt 1.5/Cupcake edition making 2.1 all the more sweeter. The video above shows an HTC Hero Euro-model packing Android 2.1 w/ Sense UI. It looks hot and performs well. There's only a few areas where some lag is noticeable. Though at this point in the game, lag shouldn't be non-existent. But I'll take what I can get for now. Watch the vid and leave ...
  • How’s that Moto CLIQ update doing for ya…?
    by Mike
    Posted December 2nd, 2009 at 2:14 pm
Motorola CLIQ users have now had a good 12 hours to wring their freshly updated CLIQ's to the ends of their ropes. I have to say that it's an extremely good thing that Motorola pushed out the update they did -- fixing numerous bugs and tweaking app/memory/processor management as to get a grip on that abysmal battery life. But I'm sure like me, many of you are disappointed that you're still stuck with Android 1.5 and weren't upgraded to 1.6 at least. No excuses. Android really needs to watch ...
  • Windows Mobile 7 will better embrace entertainment, web browsing.
    by Mike
    Posted December 2nd, 2009 at 1:33 pm
If you could pick one thing that bugs you most about Windows Mobile, what would it be? Would it be the ugly interface, poor touch screen support, sluggish performance even on top of the line hardware, *insert reasoning here*? One thing is for certain, Windows Mobile needs more consumer minded design and implementation. What was once a corporate staple has since fallen to other victors such as RIM and doesn't begin to even hold a candle on the multimedia front when compared to the iPhone. Win...
  • Nokia pushing on with Symbian. New face expected in 2010.
    by Mike
    Posted December 2nd, 2009 at 11:02 am
When compared to the likes of Android, the iPhone OS, in some instances BlackBerry and yes, even Windows Mobile, Symbian comes off looking pretty dated. Even though I dog it from time to time, it really isn't that bad of an OS. It's just suffering from a sickening lack of innovation and attention that Android, iPhone, and BlackBerry platforms have been thoroughly enjoying as of late. With constant back and forth rumors of the demise of Nokia and Symbians relationship, many were assuming that ...
  • Motorola CLIQ update happiness!
    by Mike
    Posted December 1st, 2009 at 2:10 pm
If you're overall happy with your Moto CLIQ but wishing it was tightened up just a bit, a fresh OS update from Motorola is surely something to turn your frown upside down. The biggest updates touched upon include battery, touch, and bluetooth performance with many other areas getting the much needed attention. What are you waiting for?! Get the update now via your device under "System Updates" in the Settings app. Press release inside... (more...)...
  • Android 2.1 Hero ROM w/ HTC Sense UI leaked.
    by Mike
    Posted December 1st, 2009 at 12:45 pm
So you've been lusting over Sense UI playing nice with the upcoming Android 2.1 update these last couple of days. Pictures are indeed worth a thousand words yet somehow, we are left wanting more. Understandable. And so you shall receive. HTC Hero owners who are starting to twitch due to the now ancient Android 1.5 build they're currently running can -- if they have the hacking chops -- download a freshly leaked Android 2.1 ROM, complete with Sense UI wrapped all around. I could go on but yo...
  • Nokia trying to kill themselves. 2010 to bring but a single Maemo device. Stubborn Symbian love fest continues.
    by Mike
    Posted December 1st, 2009 at 7:00 am
Yeah yeah, I know that Nokia claimed all N-Series devices from this point forward would tout the surprisingly intriguing Maemo OS. According to a few Reuters sources however, Nokia appears to be getting a slight case of nostalgia and will in fact only release one, single Maemo device next year. Why?! Symbian was great in the day and still could be if it was totally rebuilt. But that isn't going to happen so it's time to move on. In the current mobile arena, when comparing Android, the iPhon...
  • HTC HD2 to be graced with Windows Mobile 7
    by Mike
    Posted November 23rd, 2009 at 5:17 am
The HTC HD2 is currently the top dog of the WinMo world. It has a massive 4.3" screen which is gargantuan when compared to any other smartphone. Even considering the fact that it is hobbling along with WinMo 6.5 prettified with HTC's Sense UI, the HTC HD2 is a hot phone. Not to mention, the snappy 1GHz processor tucked away within is another reason to gloat over this fine piece of gadgetry. So it comes as no surprise that HTC made a statement announcing a Windows Mobile 7 upgrade for the HTC...
  • Chrome OS revealed!
    by Mike
    Posted November 19th, 2009 at 2:05 pm
Google junkies and all around simpletons with curiosity bouncing off the charts in regards to Google's Chrome OS can finally have some visual treats to munch on. Taking a quick glance above, you can see that it's a lot like the Chrome browser. To some that's good, to others it's bad. It's highly effective though. After going through several different live blog events, the ease at which you switch between browser tabs and applications tabs really does blend the whole desktop/cloud line. But ...
