  • Is 2010 the year BlackBerry becomes “Consumer Cool”
    by Mike
    Posted November 11th, 2009 at 3:54 pm
After pouring over countless articles, slides, and pictures from RIM's Developer conference the last couple of days, I have to admit I am really impressed by RIM's consumer minded showing. The simple addition of BlackBerry Themes in App World combined with Widgets and actual 3D games to boot instantly jumped RIM and the BlackBerry platform up a few rungs in my book. There's no doubt about it, for consumers focused on multimedia and entertainment, the iPhone is where it's at. Android still...
  • About the “revolutionary” Storm 2…
    by Mike
    Posted October 28th, 2009 at 8:13 am
I haven't yet touched and felt the new Storm 2 for myself. But I can assure you I will be heading to the local Verizon store today to give it a try. Am I going to buy one? No! But after reading Zdnet's review, my initial excitement at hardware based improvements on the latest iteration have effectively been squelched. I already knew that save for the re-worked touchscreen and some good 'ol WiFI, everything else in the physical sense was more or less the same. But I still hoped that those su...

While the more technically inclined and those who are close friends with lady luck already have BlackBerry Messenger 5.0, the rest of us will find tomorrow, October 7th as the day we have been anxiously awaiting for so long. Tomorrow is the day that RIM will take the shroud off of BBM 5.0 and release it to the masses. A slew of performance tweaks, UI adjustments, and added features are coming your way. The new goods packed inside are well known by now, all that's left is thumb twaddling and w...

Just a friendly reminder for all of you BlackBerry toting, Mac loving junkies out there: BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac is being released today...for real this time! I was lucky enough to snag a copy of the earlier version that was leaked and like what I saw then. I can't wait to get the newest version and give a thorough shakedown. One thing is for sure however, BB Desktop manager for Mac is much more polished and streamlined than the Windows counterpart. Head on over to
  • BlackBerry Tour 2600 mAh extended battery: Breaking free of cords since 2009
    by Mike
    Posted September 21st, 2009 at 8:38 pm
As with most gadget junkies, your smartphone is your window into the world. Without you often feel lost, without a voice even. You can always carry a spare batter or charger in your pocket but let's be real, no one is wants to do that. If you can sacrifice a couple millimeters of your precious pocket space, the Seidio 2600 mAh extended battery for the BlackBerry Tour will give you the extra juice needed while adding a minimal amount to the Tour's backside. So, if the already bigger than mo...
  • BlackBerry Tour high return claims ruffle a few feathers…
    by Mike
    Posted September 18th, 2009 at 1:25 pm
Having a piece of art, geeky art that you and your company have spent so many hours and sacrificed blood and tears for experience a quality problem is a sad sad thing to go through. Understandably, I'm sure RIM is feeling the heat as both Verizon and Sprint BlackBerry Tour's (9630) are getting flack from users because of faulty trackballs. Return rates have been estimated as high as the 50% mark according to both Barron's and a CrunchGear poll -- not a small problem or claim to say the least. ...
  • BlackBerry OS 5.0 update
    by Mike
    Posted September 16th, 2009 at 7:07 am
While I criticized RIM pretty hard, the addict in me still looks favorably on the old friend as I long for something new and exciting. 5.0 was supposed to be launched Aug/Sept according to several pieces of documentation that circulated over the summer. Obviously August is gone and September is quickly heading that way. So what now? We wait longer. According to RIM as they talked tireless at several BlackBerry symposium events, 5.0 for the enterprise and developer networks is already starti...
  • RIM missing the point: 3 upcoming devices for 2009. 16 more for 2010. Same tired OS. Is RIM going to become the next Palm?
    by Mike
    Posted September 15th, 2009 at 12:05 pm
In what should be a joyous occasion for me is turning out to be bittersweet if not downright painful. Stumbling upon this post by BlackBerry cool highlights one very large problem -- RIM has completely lost site of where they should be going. First off, the three upcoming devices that are set to fall in the very near future, the Essex (basically a 9630 Tour with WiFi and a trackpad), 9100 (refreshed pearl type device), and 8530 (CDMA version of the 8520 already available) are nothing more th...

  • Baltimore Police Department on their way to BlackBerry thumb
    by Mike
    Posted September 3rd, 2009 at 5:41 am
RIM's little BlackBerry device has enjoyed an explosion in popularity the last 1-2 years thanks to aggressive model refreshes and marketing campaigns. Their push is paying off as the ever popular consumer market is literally eating up these plastic wrapped Berries like none other. A new force has joined club Berry and with their story, can and probably will inspire others like them to adapt a Berry thumb. That force in question is the Baltimore Police Department. The fine young and women...
  • This Thanksgiving, have a turkey and a BlackBerry 9700

The wait for a 3G BlackBerry on T-Mobile USA has been a long, long, long road. Watching carrier after carrier steal all of the good speedy devices can certainly become discrouraging after many cold shoulders. However, TMO USA users caught a second wind when it was announced that an upcoming version of the Onyx, the BlackBerry 9700 would be coming to T-Mobile -- with 3G no less! Building upon those previous known tidbits, a claimed reliable source to TMO news is reporting that the TMO 3G tot...
  • Updated BlackBerry Tour (renamed “Essex”) to get WiFi and optical trackpad?
    by Mike
    Posted August 31st, 2009 at 1:12 pm
For now, take your rumor folder and gently place this one in there to foster and grow. If you thought the BlackBerry Tour was hot stuff now, wait until early 2010 when a lightly updated model is supposed to appear. Along with a new name, "Essex", this new 9630 will get WiFi much like the updated Storm 2 as well as that optical trackpad that is surprising many good 'ol physical button lovers everywhere. For now, this is all rumor without any pictures or internal leaked documents to back it u...
