• BlackBerry 9700 spec’s revealed!
by Mike
Posted July 29th, 2009 at 11:31 am
CrackBerry addicts, the hunt for the next Berry is heating up. The absolute latest in the BlackBerry front comes in the form of the BlackBerry 9700. So far there isn't any cute code name to call it by. Instead all we have is the "9700" moniker and a few specs which are as follows: 480×360 resolution display Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE UMTS/HSDPA Wi-Fi a,b,g/Bluetooth 3.2 megapixel AF camera QWERTY keyboard OS 5.0 One thing that bugs me is the lack of any mention of a touchscreen. I kn...
• Verizon to get low end BlackBerry savior: 8530
by Mike
Posted July 29th, 2009 at 5:31 am
If you just so happened to be one of those CDMA toters in the BlackBerry world, always looking over your shoulder at your GSM frenemies with jealousy and haste as you watch them time and time again get the coolest berries first and even exclusively, you sometimes find yourself questioning your odd yet steadfast alliance to this less used wireless technology CDMA. While the top of the line BlackBerries always leave us speechless and ecstatic, the bottom end needs just as much lovin' too. Not...
• BlackBerry App World 1.1 coming soon?
by Mike
Posted July 28th, 2009 at 12:42 pm
While the title may not tip off your interest in the slightest, BlackBerry App World 1.1 looks to be bringing a couple of highly requested features for RIM's mobile app store. First off, downloaded apps will now be able to be stored to memory cards...woo hoo!!! Second, an actual App World website that would allow desktop users to browser apps, read reviews, and other app store goodness all from the comfort and more roomy foot print that a desktop monitor offers. Per RIM: lexible storage ...
• BlackBerry 8520 officially official according to RIM
by Mike
Posted July 27th, 2009 at 5:17 am
Those of you die hard tech fans who know of new products weeks to months before manufacturer service reps have known about the BlackBerry 8520 for some time now. While feature hounds will no doubt be intrigued by the optical touchpad though left wanting more with the 8520's rather low end appearance and feature set, the device will surely cushion RIM's growing lower end market. Hey, not everyone can afford to splurge on $3-$500 BlackBerries now can they? Following this push for the low end,...
• BlackBerry OS 5.0 finally ushers in tabbed browsing
by Mike
Posted July 16th, 2009 at 5:52 am
RIM and BlackBerrys are one of my top smartphone choices. They may not be the prettiest thing in town nor the most intuitive, but their sheer speed, simplicity, and messaging capabilities often make up for it. While the BB browser until recently has been the butt of jokes because it was downright terrible (even that's giving it some), OS 4.6 and 4.7 have brought many improvements in both speed and rendering quality to the in-house browser. OS 5.0 further improves upon the BlackBerry browser...
• BlackBerry Storm 2 indeed the 9550
by Mike
Posted July 14th, 2009 at 8:40 am
Number counters and those of you who long for the never tiring workhorse that is BlackBerry have something to celebrate this fine Tuesday morning. Claims and assumptions that the Storm 2 was taking the model number 9550 were correct. While it isn't leaked shots of the hardware (which we've already seen) or images of a completely revamped OS (keep dreaming), it is a small victory none the less. With rumors and mounting confirmation of no more craptactic clicky touchscreen I can only say: "Br...
• BlackBerry Onyx 9020 gets spied with optical trackpad in tow
by Mike
Posted July 10th, 2009 at 9:35 am
BlackBerry fanatics who were impatiently waiting for images of the ever so popular BlackBerry Onyx 9020 need to sit down, grab their inhalers and get ready. The Onyx has finally been spied without any covers, bearing to all the nice little optical trackpad nestled right smack dab front and center awaiting your poking and prodding fingers. Is it a prototype or early production unit? Can't say at the moment. All I can say is how soon can we get this?! It is definitely a sexy looking Berry ...
• BlackBerry Curve 8520 coming in White!
by Mike
Posted July 8th, 2009 at 9:57 am
While electronics in my opinion tend to look better in darker colors, there are plenty of people who care to say otherwise. Often times, RIM pushes out BlackBerries that fall into the darker color group with the exception of colored sets here and there. All of you 8520/Gemini hopefuls have reason to celebrate -- several insiders have claimed to have seen a white 8520/Gemini floating around. I for one wouldn't be against it if I could see it in person. Do you think RIM can pull off another ...
• Enhanced Gmail plugin being fabricated by RIM
by Mike
Posted July 6th, 2009 at 9:43 am
While the BlackBerry email handling is bar none, one of the easier and most simplistic methods to retrieve email on the go, it leaves much to be desired. Gmail users in particular have been clamoring for better gmail management for some time. It appears if their cries for help are not going unheard. A thread over at BlackberryForum(de) details the leaked goodness of an enhanced Gmail plugin coming to BlackBerry soon. Supposedly, the plugin will add Gmail specific functions to your CrackBer...
• For those of you who think that just because you’re near the top…you’re the best
by Mike
Posted July 1st, 2009 at 12:44 pm
I just got done reading one of, if not the best articles ever written in regards to a company that is losing sight. Boy Genius an avid BlackBerry user has voiced what so many BlackBerry users feel everyday -- that their beloved CrackBerry is awesome in the hardware department. However, the software department is a joke, a downright failure. Now the OS is more than capable...three years ago. Putting it up against your Mobile OS X and Android shows just how behind RIM is in software terms. ...
• BlackBerry 9630 (Tour) coming to Verizon in 2 flavors
by Mike
Posted June 30th, 2009 at 8:48 am
Yes folks, Verizon will be getting not one but two variations of the Tour 9630 on July 12th. Now before you pour gasoline all over the yard and light it in celebration, you may want to know that the variation is more business centric and really means absolutely nothing for you, the crack addicted end user. The difference between the two variations revolves around the camera -- one model will have it while one won't. Pretty basic and primative stuff. For a little while, once RIM dipped thei...
• SureType coming to full QWERTY BlackBerrys in OS 5.0!
by Mike
Posted June 16th, 2009 at 3:26 pm
One of the greatest features of the full QWERTY keyboard on a smartphone is the ability to type what you want, when you want it.  You're free to pick and choose every letter you wish, often simplifying the process of complicated and complex words that would often give T9 users a stroke.  RIM developed and released some years ago now a technology called SureType...
