In the world of flash storage, if you bought your card last week, it's already outdated and small (size wise). Prices are dropping fast and storage size is increasing equally. If you are a big photographer or movie buff and have a device that uses SD cards I have some bitter sweet news for you. Pretec has announced that they are bringing to market the worlds first 32GB SDXC card. Said card will have fairly respectable transfer rates of 50MB/s.  Further down the road, Pretec is making bo...

The 'ol spinning hard drive will is on the slow but steady way out folks.  OCZ is breaking into the relatively empty arena of 1TB SSD storage.  Their rendition comes by means of slapping (4) 256GB SSD drives into a PCIe insertable case that will effectively jump you to the head of the geek line.  The picture above depicts a mere shell of what the final version will most likely look like.  If you think that all of this new aged storage will slow you down think again as OCZ is claiming max...

With the ever sinking prices of storage, no one should be without at least a 500GB internal/external backup hard drive for times when your beloved computer isn't on it's best behavior, or, if you just have a ton of files which need a home.  Of course there are a myriad of options in the form of internal and external hard drives available on the market.  However, buying an internal means you have to open up your computer, and external are more than likely (though the tides are a changin') s...

MicroSD cards are perhaps the greatest example of how in just a few years time digital storage has drastically revolutionized the way our digital devices store data.  Kingston announced today at MWC that their line of microSD cards will now top out at a full 16GB!  Just a few months behind SanDisk.  Trivial facts aside, just think, that's around 2,200 songs at 256kbps!  And to think it all fits on a card the size of your standard remote control button.  Simply amazing.  Yet we go on wi...
  • Samsung paves the way for 32GB RAM
    by Mike

Remember back in the day how "512 KB used to be enough memory for anyone".  Thankfully times have changed for the better.  With the ever increasing amount of graphical work that is done on our computers, we need to find ways for increasing the temporary stroage to handle all of that data.  Samsung is paving the way to 1TB RAM sticks...though you have to start small and work your way up.  Using 4Gb (yes bit) miniscule 50-nm DDR3 memory chips, *a world first*, allows Samsung to up the RAM...

Western Digital is uping the capacity ceiling in the hard drive market by releasing their latest and greatest 2TB Caviar Green hard drive.  It's noted as being the first hard drive in the industry to reach the 2TB milestone.  *clap*  Don't worry, the high storage doesn't come with that high of a price.  Priced at $299, it seems like a fairly reasonable amount to pay for such a plethora of storage for all of your little 1's and 0's.  If you are of the type who live on spec sheets, head...

When 1TB just isn't enough relax and know that there is something bigger out there.  WD will be launching a 2TB hard drive this week according to Electronista and Fudzilla.  The 2TB is officially dubbed the "The Caviar Green 2000GB WD20EADS".  Whew!  Talk about a mouthful!  Said drive reportedly has a seek time of 8.9ms and spins at 7200 RPM's.  It earns the green title because at times of low demand will slow down to 5400 RPM's in order to save a couple of branches that I'm sure ov...

With the ocean of formats available for what seems like an equally full ocean of different types of cards, you may think oh *expletive* at hearing of another storage format.  Fret not fellow readers for it is a backwards compatible format for SD cards dubbed SDXC SD (eXtended Capacity).  What is the benefit of these new fangled cards?  How about storage up to 2TB!  The cards rely on Microsofts exFat file format.  A few examples of what you can store on this thing are: 4,000 RAW images, ...

Or, did you recently lose 30gigs worth of priceless family albums all because your old flash drive died?  If either of those people are you, you're in luck.  The Ultra USB Backup claims the title as the worlds first USB drive to have a one touch button backup feature!  It also doesn't hurt that these flash drives come in capacities up to 64GB!  Wow, a 64GB flash drive.  It doesn't seem like too long where we were getting all foamy at...
  • Camcorders with 32GB of flash storage are sooo December 2008
    by Mike
    Posted January 5th, 2009 at 9:26 pm
Samsung has won the crown of being the first manufacturer to release a camcorder with 64GB of flash storage built in (HMX-H106).  The HMX-105 and 104 have 32/16GB flash storage respectively.  Leading the tail end of their line up is the HMX-h100 which eschews the built in flash storage in favor of an SD/SDHC card slot.  With flash hard drives still relatively new, you will still end up paying a premium for them, while not as much as a year ago, the premium is still there.
