  • Acer A1 comes state side. Passes FCC with AT&T 3G bands in tow…

AT&T; has remained mum on any mentioning of Android or when the carrier might even begin to sell devices with Android. Chalk it up to their love fest with Apple. AT&T; users deserve an Android option. Now that all three other big carriers have at least one Android device with many more in the pipeline means AT&T; can't afford to sit this one out much longer. With that said, we can always look towards the FCC directories and documents for early information of handset releases. The Acer A1 h...
  • Acer Liquid’s Snapdragon CPU downclocked to just 768MHz

Ready for a midday round of disappointment coupled with a dash of optimism? The Acer Liquid was to be a Snapdragon powered beast of a mobile device. For those with already wondering minds, be at ease as the Liquid is still coming and with a Snapdrgaon proc to boot. There's only one problem. Acer is downclocking the CPU to 768MHz. Granted, that's faster than most phones out there today and just 6 months ago would have garnered a slew of "ZOMG's". However, in today's world with 1GHz/Snapdr...
  • Going above and beyond: Acer releases S243HL LCD featuring 8,000,000:1 contrast ratio

Think your paltry 50,000:1 desktop monitor is hot stuff? Sit down. It ain't got nothin' on Acer's latest beast -- the 24-inch S243HL. The marketing pizazz behind this monster is of course that insanely high contrast ratio. Reaching such a number comes by way of a white LED being employed instead of the traditional LED's that get stuffed in current displays. Physical size is also impressive measuring in at a "where did it go" 0.57 inches. Honorable mentions include 1080p (1,920 x 1,080...
  • Acer Liquid UI snapped

Acer's Liquid UI enhancements have finally been set free from the inner sanctums of Acer HQ. What you'll notice is a subtly tweaked UI -- not bone stock, though not as reworked as HTC's Sense UI. Personally, I love the stock Android skin, Sense UI, and Acer's take on Android as well. What can I say, I'm easily pleased. Besides the mildly touched UI above, Acer also deemed it necessary to reveal more specs both software and hardware based. On the software front, a touched up dialer, app s...
  • Green Dam Youth Escort software gets booted from last 3 stranglers

In what was one of the worst ideas yet in regards to censorship and "safety", the forced install of the Green Dam Youth Escort software that was mandated to be installed on every PC in China has been dealt another and potentially fatal blow. The last three major manufacturers whom also started shipping or installing the software from the factory are now backing down as well. Lenovo no longer installs the software from the factory, though, they will provide an install CD if asked. Acer annou...
