  • RIM/Rogers set to release 9700 in white.
    by Mike

Hipsters and haters of the darkness unite, RIM has your BlackBerry ready and waiting in the wings. The king pin BlackBerry (9700) will soon be dropping on Rogers in a rather calming hue of white. Much like the older 9000 Bold before it, a complete 180 in the color department may not seem like much if anything. But to some, it's the last hurdle in actually picking up said phone. I prefer the sleeker more mysterious lines of a phone dressed in all black. Though I can certainly see the draw to...
  • Name switcheroo: Tour 2 (9650) becomes the Bold 9650.

The original "Bold" for CDMA users -- the BlackBerry Tour -- was easily the best CDMA BlackBerry yet. It had gorgeous physical looks and a pretty tight list of hardware internals. The release of the 9700 soon after however cause many to overlook it and it's "supremacy" with WiFI and the now standard trackpad taking over for the weathered and worn trackball. The Tour 2 as it used to be known, isn't that big of an upgrade for existing Tour owners, but none the less is still the Berry to get for...
  • More pics of the BlackBerry Slider
    by Mike
    Posted March 3rd, 2010 at 9:16 pm
We may have touched on the BlackBerry Slider earlier, but the picture at that time while fairly revealing, was simply lacking that crystal clear definition that we all so desperately seek. BBLeaks has struck back however with clearer shots of this hotly debated device from RIM. For a quick recap, WiFI g/n, touchscreen, OS 6.0 (why not skip straight to 10...?), and several other unannounced goodies lie in wait, hidden beneath the plastic carcass that you see before you. For now, it's late. Al...
  • Looking to earn a cool $100k? Pwn2Own is your place.

Pwn2Own in years past has been staged to completely rip apart the security of modern computer operating systems and their browsers. Seeing as how that is now old news and taking into account more and more people are using smartphones, which are just as capable as desktop computers to browse the web, sets up a new recipe for security disasters. So it's no surprise that the main highlight of Pwn2Own this year is focused on mobile browsers from the "big guys", aka, iPhone 3GS, BlackBerry 9700 Bol...
  • Tmo 9700 decides to stay home a few more days. Not showing up until November 16th party.

Products release dates getting pushed back are never fun at all. Starting with a sentence like that, you know that something now so smile inducing is following. Word is that the much lusted after T-Mobile BlackBerry 9700 decided to hold of it's coming out party until November 16th. You know T-Mobile better watch out. Starting a string of delays isn't fun for anyone and this delay in particular is starting to remind me of the delay after delay style launch AT&T;'s Bold suffered from. We can o...
  • T-Mobile USA BlackBerry Onyx/Bold/9700 gets official picture
    by Mike
    Posted September 8th, 2009 at 9:13 pm
Even though we in nerd land all know that a T-Mobile branded BlackBerry 9700/Bold/Onyx exists and is coming to the US, GSM based carrier, unofficial official confirmation is always a nice thing to have before laying your pretty little heads down for a restful slumber. The unofficial confirmation comes by way of Al Sacco of CIO and a not so secret little email from TMO USA PR which stated: The BlackBerry ‘Onyx’ sports a premium experience and design with a high-gloss black finish and le...
  • OS 5.0 leaked for Bold, Tour, and 8900
    by Mike
    Posted August 26th, 2009 at 6:41 am
While Bold users may still be recouping from the excitement the latest AT&T; update brought them, the more daredevilish users may be over and done with that already as they've likely had that firmware version for weeks now. While AT&T; is still messing around with oh so old 4.6 Bold firmware, the real action is in the 5.0 scene. Some brave developer or insider with special access to pre-release BlackBerry OS builds was kind enough to open the door and let loose versions of the 5.0 software for...
  • BlackBerry Bold getting firmware update. Visual Voicemail, 2G/3G mode toggle ensue.
    by Mike
    Posted August 25th, 2009 at 1:35 pm
BlackBerry Bold users rejoice, this afternoon will bring good fortune to you and your beloved piece of Canadian born hardware. RIM announced earlier that an update to the BlackBerry Bold firmware will bring two pretty big updates with it along with the usual performance fixes and other general bug fixes. But we don't care about those mundane bug fixes. Nooo sir (or mam). We care about the numero uno updates such as Visual Voicemail and 2G/3G mode selection... (more...)...
  • Blackberry Onyx is really a Blackberry Bold 9020(?)
    by Mike
    Posted June 17th, 2009 at 11:07 am
Get out your rumor boards folks, this one is full of speculation and uncertainty.  It is being reported that the latest OS versions being pumped out for Blackberry Onyx devices are starting to appear with some actual model name tagging - in the case of the Onyx: 9020.  How hold on a second, 90xx means that it is in the Bold family...right?  What's weird is that the claimed "9020" actually looks more like the 96xx series of devices.  Stumped?  Me too!  Going further, one could (and alre...
  • Blackberry OS 4.7.1 basically the same as OS 5.0?
    by Mike
    Posted April 6th, 2009 at 3:38 pm
Mark me as unimpressed.  I don't know, maybe I just had too high of hopes for RIM's venture into the 5.0 spectrum of operating system numbers.  According to Crackberry, the current 4.7.1 OS that is floating around on the Verizon bound 9630 (Verizon's Bold) is more or less what OS 5.0 will look like.  How do I/they know?  Well they happened to snag some video footage of an 8900 Curve running OS 5.0.  As mentioned before - I'm not impressed at all.  The Blackberry OS arena is quickly get...
  • Blackberry Application Center is picky
    by Mike
    Posted February 6th, 2009 at 10:00 pm
In what is sure to upset a few Crackberry addicts tonight, news is making its way around that the up and coming Blackberry Application Center will only support the Bold and Storm at launch.  Now don't get me wrong, those are two of the best Blackberrys every made.   However there is a much larger market still using older models.  I don't know why they would ignore such a huge chunk of market even if support for the older models is coming at a later date.  Hopefully they get the developer...
